Sony 85mm f/2.8 SAM Mid-range Telephoto Lens

The Sony 85mm f/2.8 SAM ( SAL-85F28 ) is an impressive lens when used on APS-C DSLRs - at least with respect to its optical capabilities. The lens is extremely sharp across the frame from f/2.8 to f/8. Diffraction is a limiting factor beyond.

Got this lens after researching it and I must say Sony engineers definitely nailed the intent here, make a prime lens with good optics at a bargain price. I immediately put it to test and compared it to some good primes I own at same setting.

  Sharp, pleasant bokeh, color rendition is excellent, really no cons against this so long as you know you are not paying for an expensive G lens and getting a non G quality, this lens is exactly what it is, a very good bargain for a prime lens, period.

(Don't try this at home!) While changing lenses I rested the SAL85F28 on its side and watched in stunned horror as it rolled off an edge and dropped 18 inches onto a rough concrete floor.

for anyone looking to add a nice portrait lens to their collection, this is the lens you want...look at the graphs, look at the online reviews, then look with your own eyes...shooting into the light cropped in at 100%...you will get a little magenta CA that's easily taken care of in post..
