The Sony DT 30mm f/2.8 Macro SAM offers genuine 1:1 macro capability at a price that won't break the bank
Overall, this is a very interesting lens, especially when its price is taken into consideration. It offers a macro solution that is capable of producing images of very good quality, so long as it is used within its limitations.

Lightweight, Compact, Capable of very good results, Excellent value for money

Short working distance can be a challenge to work around, Barrel distortion, Chromatic aberrations may be visible in high contrast images
The Sony 30mm f/2.8 DT macro ( SAL-30F28 ) shines in many aspects. Like most dedicated macro lenses it is extremely sharp straight from f/2.8 till about f/11 and even f/16 can be considered as a mainstream setting.
Available for under 160, is Sony's 30mm macro lens the perfect macro lens for photographers on a budget?

I have a special purpose for my new 30mm lens: 7,000 slides waiting to be digitized. Scanning takes over two minutes per slide, a real bummer. But this lens on my Sony A77, attached to the Nikon ES-1 slide copier makes a beautiful high-resolution digital copy in seconds!
I had been in the market for a macro lens when I found this little beauty. For such a low price, I was blown away by the quality of the images it was giving me. I've used it for everything from portraits to landscapes to macro. It's rarely been taken off my camera since I've gotten it!

Fairly light easy to use great Sony quality slight edge distortion but colour transmition fab
Can't beat the price for the image quality. Beautifully sharp detail and strong bokeh. Good for portraits and macro, but you'll have to be right up on the material for the 1:1
