The Zeiss Sonnar T* 135mm f/1.8 ZA showed an outstanding performance within the APS-C test and it manages to keep most of these qualities on full format sensors as well. The resolution is very good at f/1.8 and great to downright phenomanal beyond.
I have a couple of Sony / Zeiss lenses, so I'm familiar with quality, etc of this line. I have the Zeiss 24-70 and the 85 1.4, in addition to the original Sony 70-200 2.8 G. This lens however blew me away. I had heard great things and always wanted to try.
I have some nice glass, but this is the absolute king of all lenses. If you want to read a technical review than go check out the myriad of praises online including my favorite Sony/Minolta review site- dyxum.com. This lens is often praised as the best 135mm period..

Allready at 1.8 high contrast and sharpness. The Nikon- and Canon-likes reach this level at f: 4 or 5.6. You don't need to stop down for a lot of higher contrast and sharpness. Ideal for setting subjects and objects free in cities and landscapes and to use depth of field in a creative way.

There are two sides to most exotic lenses. The technical side and the pictorial presentation. The T*135mm f1.8 ZA is one of those lenses that quite simply delivers. Just buy mounting it on your camera your images look different and more artisan than other photographers can normally produce.
Another of my favourite Zeiss lenses for sure. Like the 85mm there is no SSM or weather sealing, but don't let this put you off this amazing piece of glass. Focus is still very snappy, and i photograph a lot of live performance in difficult, lo light conditions. This lens performs brilliantly.
