This is a good bang for the buck ball head for weights well under the specified 77.1lbs. I have a couple of specific uses that I need it to perform for: 1. It must be able to happily hold a 400mm 2.8 with my d810 and grip. I doesn't. Both the plate and ball head drift don't work for me.
The K-40x is a steady, smooth ball head. It takes no time to learn and works beautifully. Mine is mounted on an Oben tripod. Great combination. Holds my Nikkor 200-500mm with d850 mounted to it. To buy a second plate for mounting is a bit pricey. Otherwise, its a terrific ball head.
I bought this thinking the 70 pounds rating would be a nice overkill for my DSLR. Well, it may be too much of a good thing. I love the way it operates and feels. However I suspect I would be just as happy with the next size down for my application.
A little heavy for carrying with you on long hikes but this is the best ball head I have ever used. Rock steady and very easy to use.
I took my tripod on vacation for 10 days of landscapes and wildlife in the west, from Monument Valley to Devils Tower. The new Sirui K40 took all situations in stride. With the 200-500 zoom, the friction controls partly tightened, I could catch the deer and the antelope playing.
I needed a larger head to stabalize my D850 and longer lenses. Most of the stuff out there is in the $400 range. This has the same diameter ball, smooth and rock solid locking mechanism and no extra weight at half the price
I bought this to replace a Monfrotto head for my Monfrotto tripod. Needed something easy to adjust, but extremely secure. Canon 5D MK4 with 100-400 lens needs to be really stable to avoid vibrations. This did the trick. I have a Sirui k-20x, but it isn't adequately stable for my needs.
Very rigid for my Nikon D500 and the pan feature is very handy.
I can't praise this ballhead highly enough. Very solid, beautifully engineered and smooth. Attention to detail is sublime. I use it with a dslr and 300mm lens. No sign of slipping or droop even over long periods.
Works well, Quality built. I decided to save a little money by going with the K-40x instead of spending three times the money on another pro head. Simple, easy to use,and high quality.
