I have had this tripod for a week now and am very pleased with my first impressions of it. It is a replacement for my 40+ year old Star D Pro I like having several angles on the legs and the locking rings are very positive. The picture is the first one with the new tripod
Most of my work is done when my gear is exposed to the elements, and I always wanted the Gitzo Ocean series tripods. However, when I reached into my pocket and didn't find a 6 stack of hundred dollar bills, I realized I couldn't afford one. As soon as I saw this I knew I had to have it.
This is by far the best tripod I have owned. While it is slightly heavier than I anticipated the excellent material, locking system on the legs and smooth turning leg knobs make it a high quality tripod. I have spent lots of money on cheap tripods and should have started with this one!
I love that I can set the tripod with the legs out to the sides for very low angle images of small creatures. The legs locks are very easy to operate and the once released the legs slide down on their own. The lowest leg section is indexed so you can set the tripod for the same height every time.
Substantial tripod with well-designed leg locks. I use it primarily for field photography in a macro setting. The center post can be shortened so that the camera attached to the tripod on a ball head sits under 18 inches above the ground but extends up above my head without using the center post...
Have had this a couple of years now. It has been in rivers, on beaches, in snow, on ice, on salt flats, up and down mountains and even survived being run over in Death Valley, when after a sleepless night of Milky Way chasing I forgot it was behind my Jeep and reversed over it.
They put some thought behind this one. Very sturdy yet light. Easy to setup & adjust.Comes with stainless spikes & nice carry bag - everything you need.I purchased it as it will be spending a lot of time in the water once the weather warms so I cant comment as to its waterproof ability yet.
Awesome product at such a price.
At this price level I have high expectations and this tripod lives up to that. It is in fact taller than my other tripods which I thought I would like. I would be equally happy with a standard size as I am only 59.
I bought two of such tripod over 2 years and here what I learned:Good - Well, it is light carbon fiber tripod. You will pay above $1000 for similar RRS tripod.Bad - Both of my tripod developed exactly the same problem. They lost stopper for one leg which makes them completely dysfunctional.
