The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art is a big prime lens with a bright f/1.4 design, a focal length perfect for portraiture, and exceptional image quality.

  • +

Extremely sharp. Bright f/1.4 aperture. No distortion. Even illumination. Available for multiple systems.

  • -

Big and heavy. Omits image stabilization. Focus may require adjustment.

The Sigma Art 85mm f/1.4 is capable of producing beautiful images. While the metal construction makes it taller and the 14-element design makes it longer, the lens is only a beast in terms of size and weight. If you can handle it, it performs beautifully, and doesn’t look too bad either.

  • +

Excellent bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, Sharp performance, heavy on the details, Durable construction, Quiet autofocus

  • -

Heavy, Larger 86mm filter thread size

The Sigma 85mm F1.4 Art offers some incredible image quality for the price, with outstanding class leading sharpness, excellent subject isolation and bokeh performance. The F1.4 aperture makes it a fantastic choice for low-light events and portrait shooting.

  • +

Portraiture, low light event shooting, street photography and architecture photography

  • -

Harsh lighting conditions when shot at F1.4

Sigma continues to hit it out of the park with its lineup of Art lenses. The Sigma 85mm Æ’/1.4 DG HSM Art lens offers the sharpest 85mm lens we've seen, and it does it at about two-thirds the cost of its competitors. What's not to like?

Sigma has now well established the division of its lenses into Sport, Contemporary and Art. The Art range is aimed at the top end of the market, with lenses created to be masterful examples of the lens makers' art.

The 85mm features a fast maximum aperture of f/1.4, working in perfect harmony with its 9 rounded diaphragm blades to produce beautiful bokeh in the out-of-focus areas.

Towards the back end of last year, we were inundated by a flurry of new releases from lens manufacturers. This included Sigma, who presented three full-frame optics for us to get excited about.

The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 HSM DG Art is awesome. Full stop. Albeit still not perfect. ;-) The terms of resolution it is plenty sharp at f/1.4 … across the image that is … and the quality is breathtaking between f/2.8 and f/5.6 really.

The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 HSM DG Art is awesome. Full stop. Albeit still not perfect. ;-) In terms of resolution it is amazingly sharp at f/1.4 already and the quality is breathtaking between f/2.8 and f/5.6. Low lateral CAs are the cream on the cappuccino in terms of subjective quality perception.

The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM is a very fast and tack-sharp lens, both in the centre and at the edges of the frame, with little evidence of chromatic aberrations and virtually no distortion.

This lens produces extraordinary images. It is an important addition to the Art Series of lenses from Sigma. While this focal length is considered a portrait lens, this new lens is ideal for isolating individual subjects within a scene with the beautiful bokeh this lens produces.

Well when I am using it I find there is no difference from my Canon L lenses. The bokeh is smaller than my Canon 100mm 2.0 by far. TO match my 100 I have to put the Sigma on 2.8.This is more like a 1.2L lens if it was a Canon. Nice Build quality, Sharp, Sharp, Sharp.

I usually buy the Canon L series but this lens delivers comparable optical quality but is still affordable. No regrets!

Great lens. Enjoying the clarity and blur it adds to the backgrounds at f/1.4.

I rented this lens a few months ago for senior portraits and was blow away with the results. The purchased copy of this lens is no different. Yes its large and heavy but seems to be a perfectly balanced on my 6D with a grip.

I bought this lens because I've had such great success with Sigma's 35mm 1.4 from their Art Series. This 85mm is just as sharp with a quick auto-focus and makes for a wonderful portrait lens. I highly recommend it!
