The Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens is the widest entry in the company's full-frame f/1.4 Art series. There's some fall-off at wide apertures, but it's extremely sharp and competitively priced.

  • +

Sharp from edge to edge. Minimal distortion. Wide aperture. 9.8-inch close focus. Full-frame coverage. Available for multiple camera systems.

  • -

Noticeable fall-off at f/1.4 and f/2. May require focus adjustment via USB Dock. Large and heavy. Omits stabilization.

Sigma has done a great job rolling out excellent Art-series lenses and the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 Art is not an exception. As you can see from the previous pages of this review, the lens shines in a number of ways when compared to lenses like Nikon 24mm f/1.4G or Samyang 24mm f/1.4, with its impressive...

Sigma’s series of Art lenses is a great compliment to the company’s existing array of high-end, high-quality optics. The 24mm F/1.4 HG DSM Art is only slightly less capable than the 50mm model in the series and the $850 price tag makes it affordable for even the budget-minded photographer.

This lens is the latest addition to Sigma's 'Art' line of lenses that promise excellent optical quality and increased creative options thanks to a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture. Being one of Sigma's top of the range lenses, it sports a hypersonic focusing motor, brass lens mount and build quality...

Sigma has delivered some magic during recent years but the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM | A stayed short of our expectations. The lens wasn't overly impressive on our full format camera and, surprisingly, it isn't all that hot in the APS-C scope either.

So has Sigma done it again ? Well, the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM | A isn't flawless but pretty good in summary, especially when compared to the most obvious competition, the Nikkor AF-S 24/1.4.

So has Sigma done it again ? Well, the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM | A isn't flawless but pretty good nonetheless (keeping in mind that the test was performed on a 50mp sensor!). The center quality is nice straight at f/1.4 but the borders are plain soft here.

To date, other lenses in Sigma’s ‘Art’ series of optics have been well received, thanks in part to the optical quality they deliver and for very reasonable pricing when compared to manufacturer’s own equivalent lenses.

  • +

Excellent sharpness, Very low CA, Low distortion, Well built, Fast focusing, Keenly priced

  • -

No weather sealing, Falloff at maximum aperture (although typical for the type of lens)

The test of the Sigma A 24 mm f/1.4 DG HSM shows that reputable producers really raise the prices a lot in this segment. The Nikkor AF-S 24mm f/1.4G ED which loses the duel with the Sigma in the most important categories, being less sharp both in the centre and on the edge of the frame, costs two...

  • +

high build quality,, excellent image resolution in the frame centre,, very good image resolution on the edge of the APS-C sensor,, proper correction of chromatic aberration, both longitudinal and lateral,, no reservations concerning spherical aberration,, slight distortion,, moderate vignetting on...

  • -

high coma,, too high vignetting level on full frame,, slow autofocus.

A beautifully made product with a very solid feel. It is heavy, but that is rather positive in this case. I have relied professionally on Canon L lenses with IS and was worried that there might be some blur in low light, but in use I found the heft of the weight made it easy to produce extremely...

A f/1.4 lens is meant to be used wide open at least sometimes (otherwise an f/2.8 lens is sure to be cheaper, lighter, and just as good). This one does meet expectations. Images shot wide open are pretty sharp already, and above all very "clean".

  • +

Sharpness; low aberrations; close focus; contrast; good working against the light

  • -

MF not that nice; AF precise but slow; size and weight of course

I purchased this lens specifically to use for night-time images, because it is significantly less expensive than the equivalent Canon lens. I use this with a Canon 6D Mkii camera body, and I did a Lens Align process with the lens before using it. The camera/lens Micro Adjustment is +4.

If you like landscape photography, you will love the images you get with this lens. On my Canon 5DSR (52 MP focal plane array) the images are incredibly sharp and the colors are accurate. This is the first non-Leica or non-CarlZeiss optics to which I would assign a "Wow" rating.

I really loved this lens in the beginning. Like many Canon people, I thought, "Wow--I'll get basically the same lens for just a percentage of the price? I'm in!" Well, 2 years later, the focus has basically died.
