I wouldn't want to have to carry this thing around. If you do, you'll need either one bad-ass monopod or a serious teleproduction mount and fluid head; not a photography tripod. Think something like a $10,000 Sachtler support system, which can weigh as much as this lens.
This lens has brought new meaning to photography, it's probably one of the best lenses ever developed, if you could put together the money, you should do it, best investment I've ever saved for.
Actually it wasn't a SpaceX rocket that exploded Sept. 1. 2016 at Cape Canaveral. But instead it was me accidentally pushing over my Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 APO EX DG lens as I tried to mount it on my EOS-M camera so I could capture the launch.
I bought this specially to look into the depths of the human soul. Needless to say, it worked like a charm. I can now never unsee what I saw through this lens.
Compared to my 1200mm Canon f/8 this is nearly compact... pocket sized even. It's a joy as the ultimate walk around lens that everyone desires. I especially like using it for intimate events like births where discretion is key. And it zooms in real close!
I accidentally pointed this into the sun while trying to wrestle it onto a tripod, and my 5d Mk III instantly turned to a cloud of hot vapour. Also possibly my brother Bartholomew, whom I have not seen since the incident. He was standing behind me.
I looked into buying this but found out that there are no 2.0 Teleconverters available yet! Don't understand why anyone would release a lens without one. Since I do a lot of wildlife photography specializing in Solenopsis (fire ants), I'm going to have to delay my purchase until one is available.
It is obvious and somewhat disconcerting that many of the reviewers here do not actually "own" the lens. This lens has to be appreciated much like a Krell audio amp, or a BMW M class car, both worth every single penny their manufacturers charge for their performance.
I decided to try it out at a nature park near me to look at Saturn. I got some pretty good pics (seen in images) but I accidentally set off the built-in mini nuke launcher and destroyed the entire planet of Sarturn! Now I'm on the run over the Canadian border.
Looks very heavy...I'll likely wait until it comes out in paperback.
I thought it was a little expensive for a fleshlight but this baby was worth every penny.
