Although Tamron pioneered the release of the first 150-600mm lens, Sigma followed suit by releasing two versions of lenses with exactly the same focal length and aperture ranges.

Sigma has been continually updating their lens lineup to fit into one of three categories, Art, Contemporary and Sports. This super-telephoto zoom lens fits into Sigma's 'Contemporary' line-up of lenses and this lens provides a lower priced alternative to their 150-600mm Sports optic.

The Sigma 150-600mm Æ’/5-6.3 Contemporary is a very good lens, with an outstanding performance to dollar ratio. It's a great bargain, given both its versatility and the prices for the alternatives from the major manufacturers.

The Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens offers very similar image quality to the Sports version at a cheaper price, whilst being much lighter and therefore more suitable for hand-holding, although it doens't feature the same level of weather-proofing.

When you start comparing the list of pros and cons of the Sigma tested here and its immediate rival, the Tamron SP 150–600 mm f/5–6.3 Di VC USD, you find out they are by and large identical. Indeed you deal with almost twins, with the same parameters, price and performance.

  • +

well-done, well-thought-out design of the casing,, excellent or very good image quality in the frame centre across the whole range of apertures and focal lengths,, good performance on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,, adequate sharpness on the edge of the full frame (apart from 600 mm),, low...

  • -

work against bright light could have been better,, too high vignetting on full frame.

I have bought this lens for distant object photography: animals in the wild nature and I tried it also for night photography - I photographed Moon. I set the zoom to 600 mm and used manual focus. I got a very impressive Moon picture, which I was dreaming about!

This lens is actually a bargain ; it will deliver excellent results even at 600mm to the condition of a steep learning curve and an intensive practice. Once it's done, the lens is easy to handheld shoot It's advisable to get the Sigma USB dock and use some customization settings especially the one...

very good value, not tooheavy, high usability in the field hand held, nice built

  • -

Purchased this lens a week ago - so far no issues. Easy to handle, OS works better than I expected. Excellent DOF. Considering the price - this lens is a great buy. Attached is the picture I took this morning (hand held) at Brecksville Nature Center, OH .

I've been using this lens on a Nikon D500 on a tripod with a wireless shutter release. Images have been invariably extremely sharp and with no visible aberrations anywhere within the field of exposure.

I have been on the fence for a while about buying into an expensive adapted setup, but when this went on sale, I just had to try it--especially because the MC-11 adapter is bundled. IQ is very good on this lens throughout the zoom range. I am very happy with that.
