There are a lot of photographers who have been very excited about this lens, and my time spent with it leaves me to conclude that they have good reason to be. I noted that the lens has some challenges due to its nature (it’s expensive, heavy, and cannot use normal filters), but Sigma deserves some...

Class leading resolution, Largest maximum aperture ever at 14mm, Excellent flare resistance, Extremely good chromatic aberration control, Low levels of distortion, Effective autofocus system

Heaviest lens in its class, Fairly expensive, Not free from coma, Bulbous front elements precludes use of traditional filters
The Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM ART is an impressive lens both physically as well as regarding its creative potential. However, its extreme credentials don't come for free. Yes, it offers an insane max. aperture at this focal length but at least technically you won't find greatness at f/1.8.
Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art is a Fixed aperture Auto Focus (AF) Ultra-Wideangle Prime lens with 35mm FF max sensor coverage, and it is designed to be used with L Mount cameras. What type of photography is the Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art lens good for?

Sigma’s Art line-up has fast become one of the most highly regarded lens ranges on the planet. That’s why we’re excited to see the world’s first 14mm f/1.8 prime, with an ultra wide-angle and fast aperture which could make it every astrophotographer’s dream.
Goodness the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art lens is good. Really, really good, thanks in no small part to its unrivalled f/1.8 aperture. It’s ruddy heavy, but the extra bulk comes with the payoff of increased light intake which in turn creates vibrant and sharp images.
First of all you get a unique lens, unavailable in any other line-up. With that angle of view the best rivals offer you devices by about 1 EV slower. Secondly, the resolution results in the frame centre would break records even several years ago and they are typical for many Art series primes.

Solid and weather-sealed casing,, Sensational image quality in the frame centre already from the maximum relative aperture,, Good image quality on the edge of the APS-C,, Lack of problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration,, Imperceptible lateral chromatic aberration,, Sensible distortion...

Resolution on the edge of full frame could have been a bit better,, Weak performance against bright light,, A bit too high coma level,, Impossible to use classic filters.
Attached is the first image out of the box with this lens. This is a great lens for shooting anything in low light and you know with ultra wide lenses you have to work the location a little to find the best angle/s as the parallax comes with the territory...
I love that I can be close to my subjects and still get a wide shot! It takes a little getting use to because of the distortion but once you get use to it you are good. The couple NEEDS to be centered and about 7-8 feet from you to avoid distortion.
I bought this lens specifically for night sky and Milky Way imaging. The issue with all lenses for this type of photography is coma, those little wings that stars near the edges of the frame acquire. And, of course, sharpness, chromatic aberration and maximum aperture.
WOW! This lens is a LIGHT BUCKET! First light without any real preparation produced higher quality stars than I'd ever produced before - with lower ISO and reduced shutter time. For night time use this lens is amazing - for day time use the distortion for the ultra-wide lens isn't bad.
This lens offers something other super-wides do not - a fast aperture! This separates it from the other super-wide products. It offers minimal vignetting for such a wide and fast lens and minimal coma - great for astronomy. I had no flare issues while imaging throughout the August 2017 eclipse.
This is a great kit combination, mainly because it includes the USB doc, and the cleaning kit. The lens is suberb! I use super wide angle lenses mainly for astrophotography and I was worried about coma which is a serious problem with most lenses.
I keep buying the ART lenses. As of today I'm sold on SIGMA. The first SIGMA lens I purchased was the 150-600 sport for football. I was so impressed with the quality and performance of this lens. I started investigate all of the new SIGMA ART lenses . I'm replacing almost all of my NIKON glass.
This has been excellent for astrophotography. F1.8 is great and reveals many more stars that I am able to see by eye. It's a bit heavy, but feels solid and well built. I take it everywhere now.
Superb image quality but it weighs an absolute ton. The price we pay for a bit of extra speed at 14mm. I wouldn't do it except for making milky way and other night shots where reducing motion smear is important. Replaces my Nikon 14-24 f2.8 for night sky duty.
I love this lens. It's soaks up crazy amounts of light. So I can shoot crisp at 1.8 for half the time at half the iso than on my 2.8 lenses. It's amazing.
