One way to create differentiating photographs is to use an extreme lens. While the Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 DG II HSM Lens' max apertures are not close to being considered extreme, its incredibly wide full-frame focal lengths are.

The Sigma 12-24 mm is undoubtedly a unique lens; if you need such wide angles of view and, at the same time, if you want to avoid a „fisheye” type of instrument you will have no choice. The problem is that currently for such a price you could and should expect more.

compact and solidly made casing of the lens,, good image quality in the frame centre,, sensibly low distortion, taking into accoun the angles of view,, decently corrected coma,, not very high astigmatism,, silent, quick and efficient autofocus.

  • -

weak image quality on the edge of full frame,, high vignetting visible even on the smaller detector,, a lot of problems with the work against bright light,, noticeable chromatic aberration on shorter focal lengths,, no posibility to use filters.

This item fit the ticket for wide photography both inside and out. Good construction, comes with a sturdy lens shade and solid lens cover. Has no issues with focus or calibration (I have it on a Canon 5dIII and tested it with a focus program and it is spot on).

I bought this lens to fill out my focal range and I wasn't sure if a super-wide zoom would be that useful to me (so I didn't go for the super expensive Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8). Having never owned anything wider than a 24-70 full frame lens I was a little slow getting the hang of this lens.

    • Love the 12mm wide end on both full frame and crop sensor bodies., • Solid build, • Great on my D7100, • Fast Focus

  • -

    • Some flare when shooting into the sun, not unexpected though., • Occasionally -- misscommunicates with my D700 and gives me an aperture reading of F99 (just turn off the camera and back on to clear the error).

Unbelievable possibilities at an affordable price, that´s what this lens offers. As a professional dedicated to architecture, I started using this lens in its first version and got hooked to it.

Great price. As wide as you can get. Very affordable. Very well built. During many years Sigma\'s was the only option in ultra-wide zooms, pricing difference still make it a strong contender to Nikon\'s and Canon\'s excellent recent offerings.

This lens is to be used between F8 and f/11 for best sharpness. More open will show very soft corners, particularly at short focal distances, and closing further will make the image quality more even but softer (although a well applied sharpness filter will most likely take care of that).

Impressed will all facets of this lens. I am using it with my 5d mark i4 and a Crane 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer. Only thing that could be better is a larger aperture.
