The Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro is an f/2.8 lens with a classic macro focal length. It's not the sharpest lens wide open, but it does a good job from f/4 onward.

  • +

Minimal distortion. 1:1 magnification. Optical stabilization. Full-frame coverage.

  • -

    Soft wide open. Expensive.

The 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens is Sigma's first macro lens to feature OS (Optical Stabilization) and replaces the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens . The Sigma 105 OS Macro lens has been in my kit for just over two years and has seen intermittently regular use.

Sigma has produced an excellent macro lens in the 105mm Æ’/2.8 EX DG OS HSM - it does away with an antiquated and confusing focusing system by using the HSM system, and offers optical stabilization.

A ruggedly constructed, large-aperture, full-frame, image-stabilized, 1:1 close-up lens, this medium telephoto prime ($970, street) converts up to about 150mm on Sigma’s SD1, as well as on most DSLR cameras with APS-C sensors. Its attractions include a nonrotating barrel suitable for lens-mounted...

The Sigma AF 105mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM OS macro is an impressive lens. The resolution is generally very high although the border quality could be a little better at large aperture settings. Typical for macro lenses distortions are a non-issue. Vignetting is only a real problem at f/2.8.

The Sigma AF 105mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM OS macro is an impressive lens - both on in its native full format scope and even more so on APS-C format cameras. The APS-C resolution characteristic is great even at f/2.8 and the high quality is basically kept till about f/11.

The focal length is long enough to provide some distance between you and the subject without the field of view and higher price of a 200mm optic. The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 has long been regarded as one of the best macro lenses for its price.

One of the most recent arrivals on the macro scene, the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM lens may be one of the more pricey options for this focal length, but with its EX designation Sigma promises that both the lens' build and optical qualities befit the demands of the professional user.

The Sigma 105 mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro, compared to its immediate stabilized rivals, is a bit optically worse, features higher vignetting, works not as efficiently against bright light and has a slower autofocus. What’s interesting, it is also more expensive than them.

  • +

Excellent image quality in the frame centre,, Very good image quality on the edge of the frame for both, the APS-C/DX sensor and full frame,, Solid casing,, Sensational correction of chromatic aberration,, Zero distortion,, Very well-corrected coma,, Slight astigmatism,, Silent and quite accurate...

  • -

Weak work against bright light,, High vignetting on full frame,, Autofocus noticeably slower than that of its rivals.

Like many other users have noted....it is built like a tank. It is also largish for a 105mm lens. However it does exactly what you would want it to. It takes very sharp macro pictures at 1:1.

I've been shooting this lens for a few weeks and have pretty much left it on my second body (I was using a 50-200 or a 70-300 on it). Most people use it for macro but I really got it to extend the range of my Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 OS and it fills in beautifully for most things.

  • +

    Great bokeh, fast lens, sharp

So far, with limited use, I'm very satisfied with image sharpness, focusing and value. I was going to buy a reconditioned Canon 100mm L series until Sigma offered this at $400 off. Although the build quality doesn't match the Canon L I feel image quality does or at least comes close.

Used this lens for two weeks. The only disappointment is the F2.8 is not constant. I did know this from other reviews. Up close it goes to f3. ( nikon D750 ) other than that, I Ilike it. I would recommend. I would give it 5 stars if 2.8 was constant. I am not a pro. But an advanced amateur.

I shoot wildlife pics and added this macro to supplement my long lens. Using this on a Nikon D810 my photos of close subjects are tack sharp and crystal clear. The lens has a very fast focus and locks on the subject perfectly.

Only thing that I would change is make the f-stop go up to 32 instead of 22.
