In 2010, Shure floored us with their new studio headphones. The SRH840 were super-comfortable, sounded fantastic, and delivered a smooth sound that was non-fatiguing. Since that time, they have been our go-to headphones at the mixing desk whenever we want to evaluate mixes or do some tracking.
These phones will not withstand any rough treatment whatsoever. They break just above the swivel. If you have these phones and they have not broken yet, reinforce the band just above the swivel with electrical tape and treat them with extreme caution.

Break very easily
When I got these headphones I was so happy, especially at the price I was getting them for, but when I was buying these from Hi End Surplus, I was nervous, but I got them to my house, a tad late, but I got them!
These sound fantastic and are an excellent choice for mixing. Not particularly boosted in any areas that I can hear. I also picked up a Focusrite Vrm box with these headphones to use for referencing. So far so good.
I compared the srh840 and srh940 side by side. They both very light but the 940 is more comfortable thanks to being slightly bigger (so it doesn't touch my ears while the 840 does) and the material used in the hearpads feels a lot better to me.
Firstly, to give you a little background, I record music for a living - but I don't consider myself an audiophile. I bought these hoping for a headphone that was a little more "Hi-Fi" then my current go-to pair - AKG K271's, but I also own some Westone 2's.
We use the headphones to monitor the audio in our home TV studio.
I do not do this choice, too bad. I will turn over to the in-ear if I had to choose a headphone that mark.
As always. H&H provides a superior product with superior service.
