The Shure SRH840 are excellent all-round home headphones that are superb value at £120-odd. Well-made, and with sound lets them switch between roles as a monitoring tool and more relaxed listening buddy with ease, they’re highly flexible as long as you keep them indoors – they’re just a bit too big...

Not light, Large, Some design quirks
These are great, really neutral sound production and well built. My only complaint is that they are not comfortable to wear for long periods.
These phones have been getting a lot of use since receiving them. I am hearing more subtle nuances in music than ever before. The high end is crisp without being harsh and the low end is earthshaking without being "muddy". The vocals are also clearer.
The build quality is amazing. Feels very durable. Sound is nothing impressive or disappointing out of box. The high is a little thin and low is a little weak. But after 2 weeks the sound is getting better and better. I can feel its sound "expanding" and clarity increasing.
I was looking for a pair of over-the-ear cans for use at work. I wanted good sound and some isolation -- both incoming, to enjoy the music more, and outgoing, so as not to disturb others. In looking at the reviews here and on other Web sites, I was drawn to the SRH840.
The Shure SRH840 headphones are my first journey into high end audiophile equipment. I'm only using them through a laptop (for now), but the improvement is quite noticeable. I'm not picky about my sound, but for the price, these are a great purchase for anyone looking to upgrade from a $10 pair of...
I paid $200. I have owned a few headphones in my life, including top of the line Sennheisers, which I paid ~$500 for (2005). I love headphones. For $200 I consider these value priced. When compared to the market as a whole, its just not a lot of money, especially when you are aiming for the best.
The SRH-840, top of Shure's first line of headphones, is perhaps the best bargain in mid-level cans out there today. With an MSRP of $199, and a street price significantly lower, it can hang with cans costing three or four times as much.
