Shure has been a fixture in studios for decades. So it should come as little surprise that the SRH440 skews more towards a neutral tonal balance. But while the similarly signatured 280 sounded dull, distant, and tinny with certain genres of music, the Shure’s sparkling highs, well-balanced mids, and...

Well built. Decent isolation. Clean, articulate sound that hits a sonic sweet spot. Ear cups pivot and fold into a portable package. Come with detachable 9.5-foot coiled cable and travel pouch. Great value.

Heaviest of the bunch. Exposed driver cables made me a little nervous. Not really comfortable for more than short, hour-long listening sessions. Noise isolation not as good as the Sennheiser or Destiny.
The Shure SRH440 headphones might not appeal to people who use higher-end equipment or who want skull-shattering bass, but as a step into the world of home studio recording, they sound great with a wide range of musical genres--and the price is right.

Audio is clean and exceptionally balanced; ideal for home studio recording, but also great for general listening; detachable, replaceable cable; affordable price.

Overall retro and plastic design; clunky cable weighs down the headset; uncomfortable for long-term use; exposed small wires running from the headband to the earcup.
The Shure SRH440 sounds fantastic with a wide range of musical genres—and the price is right for artists recording in a studio and music lovers alike.

Strong bass response and crisp highs. Ideal for recording, but also great for general listening. Detachable, replaceable cable.

Can be uncomfortable when worn for long periods.
A great set of cans is essential whether you spend a lot of time in the studio or play drums live to a click-track. A relative newcomer to the professional headphone space, Shure has taken their expertise with in-ear monitoring and microphones and applied it to this essential area of sound...
Heres my review of the Shure SRH440 that i recently bought, i know they are fairly old, but i felt like i should review them.
Fans of dance might like these energetic cans, but we're not so impressed
Save yourself some money and just rub your ears with sandpaper for a few hours.

Ears literally bleeding
I compared them to a few others, and for the price these were the best! They have really good fedelity and pretty good isolation in a mix run at 80db.
This almost sounded like louder laptop speakers. Incredibly bright, without much low end to speak of. Some may like it, but I couldn't do it. The construction and quality is quite amazing. Really well built and designed. Incredibly comfortable.
I bought these headphones because I wanted a high quality monitor that could isolate the noise and chatter of my surrounding (especially when I'm shooting concerts or wedding receptions). I also wanted to get double for my money as I needed something just as good to monitor my audio while editing.
Works as expected-- sound is great playing all formats-- easy to use. Wish it had an on/off capability versus unplug to switch back to PC speakers.
Recently purchase a pair of SRH440 as a gift. Had the budget set at around $100 USD give or take depending on quality and what is available. What I needed were a set of closed cans that can be driven easily by ipod/iphone.
