I bought this as an ENG mic so I wouldn't have to have so much hiss from turning up the gain on an SM-58 I had. It produces a bigger sound, but with a similar dryness (which I actually prefer). It compared well to mics like the Beyerdynamic M58, but sounded less bright or metallic with my voice.

I don't have much experience buying microphones, but my research indicated that this is a good mic from Shure, one of the leaders in the market. The SM63 looks great, is well made and handles well, but it's noisy.

We have used dozens of these for electronic news gathering systems (ENG). They are fairly rugged and deliver very good sound quality. The mic element takes a fair amount of abuse, has very good isolation from handling noise, and delivers good levels to ENG cameras without phantom power.

Forget your RE50/B's and get out of the '50s. Give up your hammers and get this one. Every bit as rugged, but better freq response, and contoured right at the speech points of the spectrum. Hears up to 20 KHz, +/- 3 db down to 80 Hz. No need for low cut filter.

I bought this mic to use in media scrums since it was recommended by others that use it. It says that it is omni directional but I think the pick up pattern isn't that big. I would buy it again but not for the use that I am using it for

This mic is similar to the mic used by televangelist Jimmy Schwagart in the late 80s and early 90s the difference is that this mic is modern of the year 2015.

After much deliberation in which hand-held microphone to purchase, I eventually settled on the Shure SM63L. Intending to use the microphone in a crowded convention setting, the lack of initial reviews had me a little nervous. I'm happy to report that any doubt was unfounded.

When I first used the SM63L microphone, I wasn't sure that I was using it properly... I plugged the adapter into my Canon 5D MKII and my Canon t3i and went on to record some interviews... when I played back on camera, all you hear is hissing...

Using for news gathering in a school environment. Rugged enough for students, and economical. Light and compact; a nice addition to remote equipment package.
