Seagate STEB8000100 8TB Expansion Desktop Drive

It's getting harder to find 8 TB detachable drives for Macs. But this one was in my hands 24 hrs after ordering, and it worked straight out of the box. On the other hand, it's the slowest 8 TB backup I've owned (about 45 MBytes/s).

This is my 3rd Seagate unit (the other two are 5TB size). Unfortunately, one of the older units gave indications of dying and I bought the 8TB unit. I formatted the 8TB unit with the Mac Disk Utility and was up and running in less than 10 minutes. And the unit is working perfectly.

Bought this drive to mine Burst, a coin like Bitcoin that is mined with hard drive space as opposed to CPU cycles. The drive is spinning constantly but doesn't get too hot. You can hear it, barely, but that's probably because my system is otherwise all SSD. I'll probably buy another one.

I have been buying these Seagate backup drives for a while, feeling there was no other choice. The 8TB drive holds a ton of data. It's very hard (slow) to search. After a while, including Seagate drives I bought in the past with less storage space, it will fail on you. You cannot rely on it.

I connected the supplied USB 3 cable and plugged in the power transformer. Windows 10 did the rest, no divers or software. It worked perfectly the first time. My only comment is a little noise when it "wakes up" after my computer sleeps. You'll notice that when you're in a quiet area.

The last Seagate external hard drive I owned, which was also an EggXpert review item, actually failed in less than a year. I will be keeping a close eye on the longevity of this drive and I will report back if it fails in an unreasonably short amount of time.

  This Seagate Expansion drive is a very sleek device. It has a cool black color and geometric patterns on the case, it is relatively thin for an external drive, and in my opinion it looks great on the desk rather than detracting from the look of the desk.

  I have not found anything negative about this drive so far. The speed, overall performance, and design are great. Hoping for a good run with this as my backup drive!

I make a lot of YouTube video, hobby as a photographer, & do some graphic designing on the side. My digital storage needs are ridiculous. My 6tb external drive has already got about 1tb used up. The uploading is a little slower than I thought it would be, otherwise a great device.

I own three of these drives, which house the 8TB Seagate Archive Drive. These are not speed demons, but they are not intended to be. I am currently using two for alternating Time Machine backups under macOS (Sierra) and a third for long-term offsite storage.

I have 5 of these drives used for various purposes in various settings and no issues with any of them. The oldest is a little over 18 months old. Just added another to my collection, I pick these up whenever they appear in sales, got this one for a little under a hundred.

  Does what it says on the can. Not only that but very speedily too. From an SSD to the Seagate on a 24GB file I'm getting 160MB/s transfer rates.

So i had high expectations when i got this, so far in the time i have had it the quality of this is great, there is [usually] no sound if you have it on a padded surface or dampening, but when its on a hard surface you may hear a little rumble or extended soft bmb sound otherwise sometimes it makes...
