First of all, it was a great price, and works great. I've already moved about 1TB of videos & pics onto it with no problems.Secondly though, even though it has the dimensions clearly shown, I was a little surprised by the size and weight.
I love my new Seagate 4 TB external hard drive with USB Hub. I opened the box, found all the parts carefully wrapped, unwrapped them, plugged the cable into my computer & the external drive, and started downloading movies to the external drive. It worked flawlessly and the movies downloaded quickly.
I use this as my media storage drive. I use it with Plex and it works perfectly. Read speeds are high enough with USB 3.1 to allow multiple streams without lag. I will probably end up buying an even larger drive as my needs require but it will definitely be a large version of this.
Setup for automatic backup on a Macbook Pro running Parallels was quick and easy. The two USB ports work with my peripherals so this device has replaced a powered USB hub and cleaned up the desktop. Not silent but noise level is very low and a light shows when it's working.
Our old backup drive was on the fritz and causing our backup server to freeze. Once I installed this one, the issue stopped. We are using it to back up several Macs in our office and it works great.
The only question to computer users is when will your most important hard drive fail, for fail they will. The problem is that one does not know when. I have a couple of HDDs that are 10 years old and still working, but I have had 3 failures of my data drives in that time period too.
I plugged it in to the power strip, hooked up the USB cable, and it showed up on MyComputer. That easy.Note: I might have preferred one that drew power from the USB port, but then it probably wouldn't be able to also act as a hub. Having an extra hub is a small but useful plus.
Who doesnt need more USB ports!I partitioned one TB for TimeMachine and 3 TB for storage. So far so good as it sits there quietly doing what its designed to do.
I always buy Seagate Backup Plus 4TB and 8TB external hard drives for my Proxmox Virtualization servers. It's a lot better than backing up customers OpenVZ linux containers and KVM virtual private servers on External HD than it is to backup customers VPS over the network, hogging up network...
I like this hard drive very much. It not only has a huge data storage capacity, but the the hub also provides a compactable way for me to connect another external HD. Along with some other USB-driven device at the same time, if necessary. I would definitely recommend this to others.
