The Extreme 500 provides enhanced durability and SSD performance for photographers, videographers, and storage enthusiasts who wish to depart from the typical HDD configuration for their portable storage device.
Very durable compared to portable HDDs, Great performance, Sleek design
Top-capacity model is only 480GB
Its compact, its light, it has a lot of space and it’s easy to carry. It comes with a 3-year warranty. It does have a good performance with compress file types though I wish Kingston HyperX DataTraveller had enough space to do a 98.3GB assorted videos folder transfer test.
Form Factor, Storage Capacity, Quick uncompressed file transfer
Compressed file transfer speed
When it comes to mobile storage solutions – everyone in the high-end segment is thinking either USB sticks or external hard drives. In the end we’re looking for strong performance without the size of carrying a standard sized hard drive around.
It's fast enough that I use it for my lightroom library so I can take it with me (always have a backup drive with me too) and immediately import new photos to lightroom in the field. It fees up space on my internal mac ssd and gives me a little more flexibility.
I use this with my BootCamp Windows 10 install on my MacBook Pro to run GTA V off of (so that I don't have to dedicate an more space to the bootcamp partition). Honestly, the load times are almost as fast as if I was running it straight off the internal SSD.
- small, sturdy, very fast SSD
- accompanying USB cable is a tad short (although it's so light, it can effectively dangle without issue)
I love Sandisk products, but BEWARE: this products USB connection disintegrated inside the casing less than 1 month into owning it. It has vital family photos and documents, which I wanted to sync with the cloud once completed. Now it is questionable whether I can ever retrieve them!!
