The unique design of this lens should certainly appeal to those who record video with their DSLR. Although the lens is perfectly capable of shooting stills as well, those who primarily take images, rather than videos may want to look towards the slightly cheaper standard version of this lens.

Excellent sharpness in the centre when stopped down, Good build quality, Stepless aperture is an excellent feature for those recording video, Inexpensive, Stereographic projection

If shooting stills, the unique design may be more a curse than a blessing, Geared focusing and aperture rings can be a little uncomfortable

The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 CS Fisheye is certainly a more than welcome addition to the Sony NEX system. The near-stereographic projection doesn't look quite as extreme as in conventional fisheye lenses despite the similar field-of-view so its applications are in fact broader.

We were very curious about the results of this review. Recently, we have been positively surprised by Samyang 85 mm f/1.4, which, around maximum aperture, could face even the most renowned competitors. Now, Samyang 8 mm f/3.5 finally arrived.

Highly recommended for those who want to play with a fish eye but do not want to pay a fortune for it.

Very nice fish eye. The manual focus is no problem from 5.6 on. Optical and build quality are excellent. The price is low.

The minimum focus distance is longer than for more expensive fish eyes. This is the only point what could be improved.
