Most photographers would not put full frame 14mm at the top of their most-used focal length list, but most photographers can benefit by having this focal length in their kits. Images captured at 14mm can be very captivating and a welcome addition to one's photo portfolio.

Handling and features This lens is available to fit many different types of cameras, including Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony and Four Thirds SLRs as well as Samsung NX mirrorless cameras and costs around £260.

If you can live with the inherent distortion and the lack of autofocusing, the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 lens provides by far the cheapest way to get a really wide-angle lens that can produce sharp images.

Although this basic lens may not be for everyone, those looking for an ultra-wide lens, which is capable of delivering excellent quality when used within its limitations can't go far wrong with this 14mm from Samyang.

  • +

Extremely inexpensive, Excellent sharpness in the centre at f/2.8 and across the frame when stopped down to f/5.6 or beyond, Good build, Relatively lightweight, Extremely low CA levels

  • -

Wavy distortion, Falloff of illumination towards the corners, No hyperfocal scale or hard infinity stop

No promises, but I would like to write a full Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens review in the future. In the meantime, I think that you will find the standardized Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens results currently available to be helpful.

Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED Aspherical UMC may be the surprise product of the season. It's very affordable yet performing up there with the very best big boys. However, it's not a flawless lens, of course.

What could be written here? To tell you the truth I would recommend even the previous version of the Samyang 2.8/14 without scruple. The improved model, although a bit more expensive, has really much more to offer.

  • +

decent build quality,, sensational image quality in the frame centre,, very good image quality at the edge of an APS-C/DX sensor,, fully acceptable image resolution at the edge of full frame,, chromatic aberration medium at most,, well-corrected coma,, properly corrected vignetting on a small...

  • -

high and complicated distortion,, significant vignetting on full frame,, you can’t use any filters.

Get this lens.I got this for my Sony E-Mount system for about $260. There are plenty of reviews that go into detail about it being a lot of glass, having too much focus throw, the build quality, the lens hood, etc...

ONE OF THE BEST PRIME I HAVE EVER USED. VERY VERY GOOD.

I have been very pleased with this Lens. It has very high quality optics and produces extremely sharp photographs. It is a totally manual lens and does not communicate with my Canon 5DSR. I basically set the lens to f2.8 to focus (max light) and then stop down for depth of field as necessary.

I used this lens for Milky Way photography and it has not disappointed so far. Very sharp images.

Soft and stretched on the sides/edges, wavy *moustache" shape horizon, but who can argue at the price? The way I get around it is by composing more toward the middle and cropping the sides a bit. I've enjoyed using it.
