You’ll pay handsomely for it, but Samsung’s HW-K950 sound bar offers a thrilling Atmos experience that really must be heard to appreciate. If you’ve got to have real Atmos surround sound in a small package — and you don’t mind dumping DTS:X — the HW-K950 is well worth checking out.
-
+
Thrilling Dolby Atmos experience, Excellent matching of all components, Wireless, hassle-free surround sound, Rich and powerful bass, Thin enough to rest beneath your TV
-
-
Midrange can be flat and boxy, No DTS surround sound decoding, Wireless satellite speakers emit white noise
The Samsung HW-K950 combines the discreet looks and simple setup of a sound bar with truly impressive sound for both movies and music.
-
+
The Samsung HW-K950 is one of the best sound bars we've ever heard for both movies and music. The dedicated rear speakers deliver increased immersion compared to single-speaker designs. It's cheaper than buying a Dolby Atmos receiver and speakers.
-
-
It's expensive for a sound bar, and DTS support is limited. Dolby Atmos is only available on a limited number of titles compared with other surround formats.
As a first effort to bring the immersive surround sound of Dolby Atmos to the simplicity of a soundbar, the Samsung HW-K950 is an impressive product. Its sound quality on Dolby Atmos-encoded content is exceptionaly good and it couldn't be much simpler to set up.
-
+
Excellent sound quality from Dolby Atmos material, Support for Samsung multi-room wireless music app, Passes through 4K Ultra HD content with HDR to a compatible TV, Simple set-up, Sleek design
-
-
Sound quality on non-Atmos material less impressive, Not enough HDMI inputs, Audible hiss from rear speakers, No support for DTS:X, At $1499, it's a bit expensive
A soundbar with Dolby Atmos may seem like an oxymoron, but Samsung has done a masterful job of pulling it off. The HW-K950 delivers a hefty slice of the performance you can get from a carefully tuned component system, but without most of the complexity or a room full of speakers.
-
+
Full surround, including Dolby Atmos, from just four boxes, Rich, punchy sound
-
-
Limited connectivity, Pricey for a soundbar
The Samsung HW-K950 offers an easy option for getting Dolby Atmos in your front room with minimal fuss. Saving you from the need to install ceiling speakers or anything else, you'll be up and running with Atmos in about 15 minutes.
-
+
Simple to setup, great quality audio, plenty of power, genuine immersive audio
-
-
No DTS Master Audio support
Look, I’m the kind of guy who likes more than a hundred watts per channel to his main speakers – including the four ceiling ones – and a several hundred watt subwoofer. So when I say that I thought the Samsung HW-K950 did a quite respectable job, and much better than I’d expected, you can take it...

+
Good value for money, rather good sound quality, real Dolby Atmos, quite powerful bass, convenient
-
-
Rear surrounds may be a bit too directional for a large “sweet spot”
Samsung’s HW-K950 Dolby Atmos soundbar delivers quite a punch and is an excellent system both in quality and value. It’s one of the best soundbars we’ve heard.
-
+
Easy to set up, astonishing sound, low profile design.
-
-
Not sure how it will play with other brand TVs.
Samsung’s amazing Atmos soundbar system brings you immersive 3D sound while keeping clutter to a minimum, and delivers Samsung’s best-ever sound quality in the process. Only the overzealous subwoofer lets the side down – and budget buyers need not apply.
-
+
Explosive large-scale movie sound, Refined tone with great composure, Immersive Atmos soundstage, Extensive feature list, Slick operation
-
-
Slightly overpowering bass, Hesitant NAS drive browsing, Expensive
The Samsung HW-K950 is a fantastic audio product that delivers in every aspect of its carefully designed performance.

Great audio performance, Impressive Dolby Atmos support, 4K/60p, HDCP 2.2 and HDR compliant, HDMI 2.0a inputs and output, Samsung Multiroom,...

-
Currently no DTS multi-channel support, Bass can be a bit heavy, More HDMI inputs would be nice
The K950 is a real flag waver for Samsung's audio division. It's been designed and built completely in house, working closely with Dolby's engineers to perfect the Atmos capabilities - and the results are more spectacular than any sound bar we've heard before.
I got this soundbar based on all the good reviews and to match up with my Samsung UKS 9800 keeping the same product line for compatibility but it wasn't enough.

Compact, looks great

THE PRODUCT AUTO SHUTS OFF AFTER 5 MIN if paused
THE GOOD:The HW-K950 can hardly be considered a mere "soundbar" because it is actually a full Atmos sound system, with rear wireless speakers and subwoofer. The sound quality is superb and when ATMOS is activated, look out: it will blow you away with full, rich, clear and truly immersive sound with...
I'm upgrading from a Vizio 5.1 Soundbar 3 years old so I've enjoyed 5.1 for 3 years ,but compared to Atmos it's no comparison Atmos is an experience more real than 5.1 I've watched all 7 Star Wars Movie on my Vudu account the sound effects are amazing ships coming from behind you, in front of you I...
The sound bar looks great. I like the visible control data that shows when you use the TV remote on the sound bar. It sounds great. It was easy to set up. Everything paired instantly.

Easy set up, Nice looking and solid, Sounds great

You have to use a workaround for DTS X
Looking for surround sound for tv in basement. Still using the same Bose Acoustimass 10 for 18 years in the living room but decided to go with HW-K950 with Dolby Atmos. Excited about the prospects. Started off sounding good. Actually great for a sound bar. But then the problems.

Probably will sound good if works

For the money this is truly an 'investment' in quality sound - should connect smoothly & stay connected. Was this review helpful?

Great sound system but still having difficulties keeping rear system speakers connected to main unit.
-

Rear speakers lose connectivity & are difficult to reset
My sound bar will not process atmos. I have been troubleshooting this for well over a month. It plays other Dolby formats just fine but it will not process atmos. I have followed all instructions perfectly but the bar will not display "atmos" on the front and the blue led will not light up like it's...
PRO: I will agree the sound in ATMOS is GREAT!CONS: I have had times when the sound shuts off completely or the speakers loose their sync I have to shut everything off to recover. I do not get the ATMOS detection Blue LED in the display and on some ATMOS 4K Blu-Ray disks I get no sound and sometimes...
I would recommend this product to my family as well as my friends. I really liked the sound quality, especially the effect of the subwoofer. Thank you Samsung for creating such great products. Always.
