Samsung’s HT-J5500W system is one of the few home theater in a box systems that has wireless speakers. Featuring a built-in Blu-ray player that supports 3D video and support for Wi-Fi, you'll have access to hours of entertainment. However, its audio performance is slightly lacking.
After two weeks I really like this unit. Great sound: good bass and very good surround effect even with the TV. Nothing beats it for the price (my was actually deeply discounted). It certainly beats my older (and way much more expensive) Polk Surroundbar 50 system.
great sound, small footprint, eliminates the need for separate receiver/amplifier (unless you are a real audiophile) and blue-ray, easy to connect, price
nothing particular; some may not like that the surround speakers are not totally wireless (those are wired to a wireless receiver), which is a small inconvenience (if any).
The sound system is very good and sound great with a little tweaking. It was an easy task to mount the speakers to the wall but this isn't the most ideal method or placement. It would have been better to be able to get them off the wall a little but the only way to hang them is with a keyhole in the...
The overall sound quality is good. I would have given the overall rating a five except for the following. I'm not impressed with the sound coming from the (L) and (R) surround speakers and the sub-woofer. I know they work because the sound test tells me .
Bright display, Realistic color, Inexpensive, Lightweight, Built-in speakers
Not high def
Takes about 3 seconds from TV on to sound out. Quickly loads discs and ready to play. Sound quality is much better than TV but not spectacular - you do get what you have paid for. However, there are several several aggravating problems/design flaws:1.
This system stinks 1st of all I got it out the box. Hooked up everything and the first time I turned it on all the speakers worked. The next day the sub woofer went out after that none of the speakers work. It's a waste of money.
Only thing I would have liked is a setting so I can play my dvd's that are old, classic movies (many of which record in just 1-track mono) where the mono track can be played through all 5 speakers to give them a surround sound feel. But on modern, 5.1 movies, the special effects sounds are AWESOME!!
Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up, Good Remote
Definite downgrade from my old Samsung Home Theater in a Box that died. What type of HTS does not have an HDMI in?
Bluetooth and Wireless
Optical input only works in 2 channel! No HDMI in.. so can not use at all.. have to return as these units are junk with no HDMI in and only 2 channel optical input so no surround sound!
This is a really great choice if you want to improve your TV watching, and this will introduce you to the world of home theaters. I've always had a Samsung Blu Ray home theater, and I loved the sound it gave me and it made such a difference in the way I watched movies, TV shows and even streaming...
It looks good when you read the description. Unboxing went fine. You have to use the HDMI inputs on your TV to switch between sources. This unit only has an HDMI output. My first problem came in setting up the optical stereo. No volume. I cycled through the options and came back to optical. Viola!
Very nice for what I needed. Only complaint is the subwoofer is not as powerful.
