Okay, it's not analog. It's virtual analog. Digital. I'm usually an all analog kind of guy, but I'm falling more in love with this synth every day. It's so easy to use, runs on batteries and has a built in speaker.
I like this thing a lot. Does it compare to my analog synths? Not exactly, but it does sound great, it's small and very very affordable. I just want to make one thing clear: this is not an analog synthesizer. It is a VA synth. Virtual analog.
Having an original JX-3P to compare it to, it was spot-on comparing the presets. Plus, you have the knobs (no more PG-200 at ridiculous prices) - great job Roland!
I looked at all the boutiques, but this one, I thought, had the best potential for a wide variety of sounds. I bought it for the string sound, and it only took a little adjustment from the stock sounds until I really had something nice, and saving your presets is easy.
Big things really do come in small packages (with candy!). I was torn as to which of the Boutique series to get first, but the Sweetwater video and the features convinced me that the JX-03 would give me the sound I was after with the flexibility to take it further. I was not wrong.
Just received the JX-03. Sounds fantastic. Read the included manual, it helps with the button presses needed for the Delay and step sequencer functions. The packaging is very nice, considering using the box as a carrying case for live shows. Setup (using MIDI and audio) was a breeze.
