While I would like to complete a full Samyang 24mm f/1.4 US UMC Lens review in the future, please use the standard lens test results for now.

At around a third of the price of the Canon and Nikon alternatives, theSamyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMCis an affordable and most importantly excellent quality alternative to the OEM offerings, that's if you can live with the lack of auto-focusing and on the Canon version the transfer of metering...

For the price, this Samyang 24mm f/1.4 offers a decent, budget introduction to fast aperture lenses. Although the sharpness delivered at f/1.4 may not be up to that delivered my manufacturer’s own lenses, it may still be usable for some applications, and it certainly costs a lot less too.

Our summary can be a simple parable about climbing to the top, which was too quick, and a very painful downfall. After several very successful launches Samyang assumed too hastily that they belong to the elite and they can offer a lens with professional parameters in every category for a price not...

very good image quality on stopping down the lens by 1.5 EV,, chromatic aberration well-controlled,, decent work against bright light,, well-corrected coma on APS-C/DX and smaller detectors.

  • -

real aperture of the lens is much closer to f/1.8 than to f/1.4 or/and wrong conctruction of the diaphragm,, distortion level higher than in the case of its competitors,, slackened manual focus ring,, very high vignetting on full frame,, no contacts in the Canon mount version,, weak image quality by...

Having recently purchased one mainly for astro photography, I took it out for the first time last night. When I turned on my D800e I got the dreaded fEE error message from the camera meaning it was not communicating with the lens. Couldn't go into live view or even take a shot.

I bought this for my K 50 for astrophotography and was blown away by the results. My first try, I was able to get crisp pictures of the milky way. With a cropped sensor camera, I was concerned about the focal length since I wanted big landscapes with the stars above, but with a little stitching in...

After using this for about a month, if I have to summarize this review in one line, this is an excellent lens, feels great holding it, well built and smooth to operate and would recommend it to all looking for a very fast reasonably priced, sharp, wide lens.

This is my second 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle Lens for Nikon. My husband and I fought over the first 24 mm and realized we needed a second one. This lens is our go to lens for night photography and capturing the Milky Way. Totally manual, easy to focus, spectacular captures. Love this lens.

When used with a speed booster at f/1.4 indicated on the lens it can produce some nasty coma, I have not extensively tested this, but I have a few examples (there is a slim chance this is the speedbooster). Just be forewarned.
