Sample photos taken with the new Samyang 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Micro Four Thirds lens using the Olympus OM-D E-M1 , taken around Amsterdam. The lens is also available as the Samyang 12mm T2.2 VDSLR lens, with geared focus and click-less aperture control.
This 12mm wide angle lens is available to fit a wide range of mirrorless system cameras, including Canon M, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Micro Four Thirds, and Sony E mount compatible cameras.
Overall, this is an excellent optic that produces images with excellent sharpness, low distortion and low CA. Also, what makes this lens especially interesting is the low price of around £330, which is £170 less than the closest equivalent.
It is an interesting fact that lately independent producers have been launching very original optical instruments and facing huge challenges. Sigma has produced excellent A series ‘primes’, Tamron has introduced on the market such rare devices as the 150-600 or the 16-300 mm, something you cannot...

high quality casing and a proper work of all parts of the lens,, excellent image quality in the frame centre,, acceptable image quality on the edge of the frame,, proper correction of spherical aberration,, moderate distortion,, negligible astigmatism,, good quality and performance to price ratio.

weak performance against bright light,, noticeable vignetting,, a bit too high chromatic aberration,, a significant difference between the performance in the frame centre and on the edge of the frame.
The fact that this lens is fully manual - no auto-focus - no image stabilization - is not a problem. The "Depth of Field" with this lens means that you can set the lens once for most situations. For example at f8 and setting the lens at 3 feet everything is sharp from 1.5 feet to infinity!
Bought this lens recently for a quick trip San Diego. Wanted to have something wide in the bag and hoped to have the XF 10-24, but after buying the 50-140, the wallet wouldn't allow it. So, opted for the Samyang since it's so affordable. Very glad I did. This is a fantastic lens for the price.
An amazing wide-angle. Works perfectly on my Canon M5. Ideal large aperture for wide-angle astro landscapes. Sharp and well-controlled artifacts, even wide open at f/2. Very quality build. Only complaint is the six aperture blades - makes for less than impressive starbursts.
I am having more fun than expected with this new wide lens. Manual focus not much of a problem, because with a medium f-stop, most things are in focus all the time anyway. Very sharp. Looks good on the XT-20. Picture in San Francisco attached (not full resolution, just to show the perspective)
My only gripe is they always want us to review quickly before we've had a lot of time with a product. Shooting for over fifty years, I've used a lot of glass both good and bad. I'm not a pixel peeper, but this is good glass. I love having an actual aperture ring on a lens again.
Only had the chance to use the lens a few times. Great results, far better than I had expected.
