The Pentax K-3 II D-SLR adds some features to its predecessor, including an in-camera GPS, but does so at the cost of the built-in flash.

Affordable. Solid, weather-sealed design. 24-megapixel image sensor omits OLPF. 27-point AF system. In-camera shake reduction. Pixel Shift Resolution shooting mode improves detail. OLPF simulation mode. 8fps shooting rate. In-camera GPS. Pentaprism viewfinder. Sharp rear LCD. Dual SD slots.

Omits in-camera flash. Astrotracer function is hit or miss. Burst rate slows when tracking focus is enabled. Lacks in-camera Wi-Fi. Disappointing video features.
The Pentax K-3 II keeps almost everything we loved from the superb K-3, then replaces the popup flash with an in-camera GPS -- not just for automatic geotagging, but also for freezing star-trails in astrophotography.

Top-notch image quality; Spectacular detail from Pixel Shift Resolution; Better performance than K-3; Geotag images with no accessories; Great ergonomics in a compact body; Clever on-demand low-pass filtering; Broad sensitivity range; Large and bright viewfinder for an APS-C camera; Dual card slots

No built-in flash strobe; No wireless flash support out of the box; AstroTracer function can be finicky; AE Lock button is poorly located; Below-average battery life for a prosumer DSLR; Requires a different battery grip accessory than its predecessors
The Pentax K-3 II has proved to be a highly-capable camera. Like its predecessor (the K-3 ), it delivers an impressive level of image quality and performance. Furthermore, its class-leading ergonomics, weather sealing, and accessible user interface make it a joy to use in the field.

Impressive detail at low ISOs, Effective anti-moire tools, Innovative pixel shift super resolution for still scenes, Very comfortable grip, Rugged, weather-sealed body, User-friendly menu system, Built-in GPS, Fast 8.3 FPS bursts, Shutter rated for 200,000 cycles, Fast everyday performance,...

Astrotracer requires frequent & precise calibration, Out-of-camera JPEGs struggle to keep up with RAW image quality, AF tracking algorithms lag behind competitors, No on board flash or built-in wireless triggering, No wired tethering support, wi-fi performance via FluCard is lackluster, Electronic...
The Pentax K-3 II is the latest flagship DSLR from Ricoh and one which, on paper, offers a number of interesting upgrades over its predecessors. We recently spent a couple of weeks with the surprisingly compact DSLR to see if features including an enhanced in-body shake reduction and a Pixel Shift...
It's not quite a do-it-all DSLR legend, but if you're looking for a camera that does a few unusual things very well, look no further

Excellent build quality, Takes great photos, Built-in stabilisation, Astrotracer and GPS

No flip-out LCD or Wi-Fi, Average video options, Sometimes a little slow
It's a pity we didn't have a better lens to test this camera with because so many other aspects of its performance were very good. The Pixel Shift Resolution function was quite impressive.
We awarded just three stars for Performance as its AF was considerably louder than its rivals, the write-to-card times were run-of-the-mill and the interface was a little hard to navigate. That said, if you’re not deterred by the menu system, you’ll be rewarded with good quality images.
A great feature-packed OIS system and solid sensor make this a top DSLR despite some faults.

Excellent OIS, Good dynamic range and detail, Unusual feature set

No Wi-Fi or NFC, A little large and heavy, Flawed JPEG processing
Pentax's Pixel Shift Technology and similar high-res shooting modes will have their day, but they're not yet sufficiently advanced to make this a must-have feature. That aside, the K-3 II is a capable and well-specced enthusiast DSLR.
After nearly two years, Ricoh has updated the Pentax K-3 with a second version, the Pentax K-3 II. Designed to be the flagship Pentax APS-C DSLR, the K-3 II sits at the very top of the K-series of DSLR cameras.

+ In-body image stabilisation, + Quick autofocusing system, + Pixel Shift Resolution feature, + Unique astrotracer feature for astrophotography

No touch/Articulation to LCD screen, No Wi-Fi/NFC connectivity, Only 27 autofocusing points
This is probably the best APS sized sensor SLR i had on my hands. It's very well made with excellent ergonomics and a really good image quality even at high ISOs. The AF system may not be the fastest one, but it's dead on, with no missed focus. It's extremely precise.
If you are a Pentax user and are contemplating this as an upgrade, you will not be disappointed. The AF is improved and the detail/resolution are excellent.

The K-3 II is a nice step up from the K-5II S. The detail in the pictures I take with it is excellent and AF performance seems to be the best I have ever had in any of my Pentax cameras.
This is a minor but welcome update of the outstanding K-3 which has been the top of the line Pentax DSLR for almost two years. Although a few people had some trouble with GPS locking up and the camera not turning off, it seems that most of us have had trouble free cameras.

Everything Good on K-3, GPS, Pixel Shift High Resolution, Better low light focus, faster focus

No built in flash
Pentax offer the best ergonomic and working APSC cameras!I have used since 2006, with my first K10 from Pentax...K3 II is the big evolution to use old and marvelous lenses even from Pentax or Takumar, planned on K-mount engineering.
