Panasonic's compact Lumix DMC-ZS30 features a long 20x zoom lens and integrated Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS, but image quality disappoints.
-
+
Snappy focus. 20x zoom range. Sharp rear LCD. Wi-Fi with NFC. GPS. 1080p60 video.
-
-
Pricey. Lens could be sharper. So-so high ISO performance. Very limited burst shooting. Does not include external battery charger.
A fully loaded travel zoom that's fun to use, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS30 has a lot to offer both advanced and casual snapshooters.
-
+
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS30 gets you a lot of features in a compact body including a 20x zoom lens, 3-inch touch screen, Wi-Fi for remote control of the camera as well as easy sharing, high-speed and full HD movie capture, and GPS. Photo quality and shooting performance are very good for its class.

The power and Wi-Fi buttons are too easy to accidentally press. There's no raw capture option. Battery life can be short if you do more than just take photos. Photos look soft and have visible noise/artifacts when viewed at full size even at its lowest ISO.
Overall, the Panasonic DMC-TZ40 is a very good Super Zoom, which does not shine, particularly for image quality, but it compensates with technological equipment or almost unparalleled (for a device of this range) enclosed in a very compact form factor and appealing.

+
Excellent technological equipment, 20x zoom, Stabilizer effective.

-
Objective little bright, Visible noise even at ISO base, Build quality improved.
Panasonic has once again delivered the goods. The TZ40 is a richly featured and highly versatile travel compact that is sure to appeal to anyone looking for a digital camera that’s small enough to take anywhere but flexible enough to capture great images – even when your subject is far away.
Panasonic has replaced its flagship travel compact camera, the Panasonic TZ30 (known as the Panasonic ZS20 in the US) with the Panasonic TZ40 - called the Panasonic ZS30 in the US.
Image quality is normally our number one priority when we review cameras, but last year's Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30 was an exception to the rule. Its image quality was perfectly respectable, with sharp focus from its 20x zoom lens and well-judged automatic exposures, but its sensor produced more...
Panasonic’s TZ range has long held top position in the ‘travel’ compact area. It’s a field that has proved increasingly popular with those looking for a compact camera with a more advanced feature set than a smartphone.

Impressive zoom for such a compact body, Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity welcome, Great build quality, Effective image stabilisation
-
-
Small buttons prove fiddly, No Raw capture, Small touchscreen icons
This 18mp compact camera is in the superzoom “travel” category with a focal length range of 24–480mm in film terms. The lens has five axis stablisation which helps to smooth camera movement when shooting video. Construction quality and ergonomics are good with touchscreen functions.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ40 has all the features needed to justify its travel zoom tag. It offers ample optical zoom, great for landscapes and distance objects, as well as built-in Wi-Fi and GPS, all in a pocketable body.
-
+
Good picture quality, Built-in Wi-Fi and GPS, Up to 10 fps continuous shooting, Plenty of zoom in a compact body, Decent battery life, Excellent auto white balance performance
-
-
Can't shoot in RAW, A little on the expensive side, Purple fringing and chromatic aberration visible
The advantages of a travel compact camera are that it offers a wide optical zoom range, numerous features and various shooting modes, all in a body small enough to slip into a trouser pocket.
Overall, the best camera in this series yet, with the exception of the serious design flaw mentioned.
-
+
Great pictures nearly every shot, long battery life, GPS, Wi-Fi, remote control and many other features.

Camera has a tendency to turn on in the case with a light touch, often resulting in battery drain and premature failure of the mechanism. It needs a slide power switch similar to what was standard on older models.
Bought this camera last autumn as addition to my dslr. Objective was to take the holiday snapshots with the small TZ40, making more pictures and movies. Looking for decent quality in a convenient small format. Also to venture somewhat more into the digi-scoping realm.
