The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4, which is a mirrrorless camera using a Micro Four Thirds (MFT) sensor, has nearly the same body design as the GH3 with only minor differences in overall dimensions.

8.5/10

Despite increased competition, the GH4 remains the most complete stills/video camera on the market. It's a competitive stills camera in its own right but the attention to detail when it comes to the provision of movie-shooting tools and capabilities makes it a stand-out camera.

  • +

Solid, comfortable-to-use camera body, Excellent still image quality, Industry-leading video capabilities, Highly detailed video capture, Extensive support tools - focus peaking, synchro scan, zebra...

  • -

DFD system limited to Panasonic lenses, Focus tracking poor at subject identification, Focus peaking often too subtle to assess focus point, No Auto ISO in manual exposure video shooting mode, No option to cqpture 1080 video from 4K crop region to minimize aliasing, Wi-Fi can be awkward to set up

The Panasonic GH4 takes the impressive specs and performance of the GH3 and kicks them up a notch -- a big notch -- with faster burst shooting, quicker AF, and a host of other improvements, not to mention tons of new video features.

  • +

Excellent still image quality for its class; Fantastic, highly-detailed video quality; Superior video recording chops with 4K video (both Cinema 4K and Ultra HD); Responsive all-around performer with great AF performance and burst shooting; Rolling shutter is minimal with 60p and 30p video; Splash-...

  • -

High ISO performance not as good as some APS-C models (IQ drops quickly past ISO 3200); Overall still image quality not significantly better than the GH3; Sluggish buffer clearing with RAW files; Rolling shutter noticeable on 4K video; Not as compact as most mirrorless cameras.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 takes over the GH3 as Panasonic's flagship mirrorless camera. Its large body is weather-sealed and features triple control-dials among a plethora of buttons to make it efficient in use.

  • +

Very low image-noise until ISO 800, Excellent retention of details, Good metering system, Class-leading autofocus, Short shutter-lag, Quick shot-to-shot speed, Excellent EVF with Eye-Start sensor, Instant video recording start and stop, Highly customizable function buttons, Good ergonomics,...

Below avarage Auto White-Balance, Overly complex feature interactions, Modal WB, ISO and EC, Exposure-Priority only in M mode, Wrong Live-Histogram, Lower-rear control-dial too recessed, Weak LCD hinge and memory door

A smaller Micro Four Thirds (MFT) sensor and a DSLR look make the GH4 portable and approachable with a design made for anyone to step in and take control. The camera shoots up to 4K video internally which bests some of the other major 4K players on the market.

The Panasonic GH4 performs exceptionally well as a flagship Micro Four Thirds camera. It brings 4K video to the masses, yet still offers the ability to extend the video recording capabilities for professional when combined with the DMW-YAGH interface unit.

The tides of the camera industry shifted just a bit when the [**Panasonic Lumix GH3**]() hit the scene in 2012. While other DSLRs could shoot video, they usually offered less-than-ideal quality and control. The GH3 felt like the first true hybrid camera—as good at video as it was at stills.

This DSLR camera shoots 4K. And the results are thrilling

We've often thought of the Panasonic GH series as the best consumer interchangeable lens system for video capture on the market. It's not hard to see why: the Panasonic Lumix GH4 offers 4K video capture at usable frame rates. On paper that's untouchable at this level.

  • +

Fast in all conditions, 12fps burst mode, silent electronic shutter option, movie mode as good as it gets and will sell the camera alone, fully featured screen and electronic viewfinder, pinpoint and customisable autofocus options

  • -

Lacks smooth gradation in images, needs better battery life, some button placement cramped, would like a larger viewfinder, price may seem a lot if you're not here for 4K video, autofocus generalisation in low-light conditions

Personally, I was worried about switching from Canon to Lumix 4/3. But I have been pleasantly surprised and will not be switching back. Many complaints I heard of this camera actually turned out to be false in my experience: Such as short battery life - Complete Lie. I LOVE this thing!

My footage had a very faint vertical blue line flickering from top to bottom on all mp4 footage but only in 4K. I changed all the settings that I could think of that might be causing this. Nothing worked. Then I came across the video mode for MOV as opposed to MP4.

This camera does a lot of things fairly well. There are several cameras in this price range that do one or two things better but if you can only get one camera this is the one.

I've been using this camera mostly for HD music video shoots. Recently I have been outputting 4K 10 bit 422 to a Atomos Shogun as a B camera along with a Canon C300 MKII. While the Cine V log footage is a different flavor from the Canon Log the ability to grade these two shots is a big plus.

After filming some friends I left this camera outside on a tripod. Yep, 4 hours later it was pouring rain and an hour after that is when I realized. It literally could not rain have been raining harder and this camera and 35-100 2.8 sat out there completely exposed for almost an hour. Damage? None.

Love this camera. Battery life is crazy, haven't got a second battery. the footage looks good unless you shoot in low light or if you have a dark spot in your shot artifacts might show up but other than that great quality for the price. light your shot.
