With capable, speedy performance, and a friendly but powerful interface, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 is a good choice for people looking to upgrade from a point-and-shoot.

+
Relatively compact for its class, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 delivers excellent performance and good-to-great photo quality.

The Power Zoom lens isn't great and there are some image-quality flaws in the JPEGs that might bother some people.
The availability and pricing of Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-GF5 was not detailed but its ILC category should make it lighter on the wallet compared to digital SLRs. The new lens, minor design changes, improved user interface, better image processing, and extended ISO range make DMC-GF5 a promising upgrade...
This camera with a 12 megapixel sensor is Panasonic’s latest entry model in its micro-four thirds interchangeable lens range. It is intended to appeal to customers wanting better image quality from a fully automatic camera.
As compact system cameras become more plentiful, there are splinter product groups forming. Panasonic’s latest compact system camera, the Lumix GF5, is all about being small and easy to use.

Super-fast autofocus, improved image quality, chunky grip, decent array of Micro Four Thirds lenses available

Screen hard to see in bright light, no hotshoe for viewfinder expansion, auto white balance occasionally off, no physical mode dials, we’re not keen on the power zoom lens
The GF5 represents a relatively minor upgrade to the GF3, despite its new 12-megapixel Live MOS sensor and improved image processor. The body design has been refined and is slightly more angular with a larger, rubber-clad grip.
Panasonic’s LUMIX GF5 completes the GF-series’ transition from compact enthusiast to super-compact point-and-shoot mirrorless camera. It’s simple, newbie-friendly, and seriously small -- but anyone looking for manual control should opt for the GX1 instead.
Compact system cameras (CSCs) are still toddlers compared to their mature SLR brethren, yet Panasonic's GF range is already starting to feel like a familiar friend. The GF5 is the fourth incarnation, but differences to last year's Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3 are relatively minor.
The Panasonic Lumix GF5 is a worthwhile upgrade, resolving a number of our original complaints about the GF3, and the addition of improved effects, menus systems, and built in scene modes with guides for beginners are a useful addition for beginners.

More advanced users may be better off looking at the, Noticeable vignetting with the X kit lens, No mode dial, lacks flash hot-shoe
There was a time when system cameras were replaced or upgraded every two years, or perhaps every 18 months. However, the introduction of compact system cameras has speeded up this process and now yearly upgrades seem to be the norm.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF5 is an entry-level compact system camera

No viewfinder, No hotshoe, Not that different from GF3
This was a perfect choice for me. I wanted close to DSLR quality but with the ability to carry the camera easily. The camera feels quality and is very quick to start up and start shooting and achieves good results in low light.

Not sure if this is a con in this class but maybe a bit more manual control
I got this camera for 1,799 AED (490 USD) from the Panasonic store in Dubai Mall. The 14-42mm lens came free with it, so this was practically a steal! (Camera + 14mm + 14-42mm lenses) The auto white balance is one of the best things about this camera, for some reason it is perfect in every picture I...
