Technological advancements constantly give us more than we could have imagined as products experience evolutionary changes. The musical instrument (MI) industry is no exception when it comes to big changes, especially when it comes to sound reinforcement.
Presonus already has a very affordable two-way monitor range called Eris that follows a pretty well trodden path. However, for its new flagship range, Sceptre, it's chosen a slightly different route, developing a horn-loaded integrated coaxial driver design, which it's dubbed CoActual.
PreSonus has combined coaxial speaker design from the 40s with cutting-edge DSP technology. Huw Price assesses the results.
Everything is as expected but 1 of the speakers has some buzz/vibration when the volume gets to about half way during a kick. Its only audible when the kick is playing by itself. I swapped the channels on the interface and swapped the cables and the issue is 100% from the speaker.
The ability of these monitors to present a stereo image is incredible! They are expensive, but well worth the money. One word of caution...note the dimensions and plan for their huge size before you receive them. Being able to accomodate these large monitors is no small task.
These make tracking very nice. Great sound down the whole freq range
