The Onkyo TX-NR585 offers all of the streaming and decoding capabilities you need for a modern, affordable receiver, and it sounds great doing it.

  • +

The Onkyo TX-NR585 offers a wealth of connectivity and streaming options without sacrificing sound quality. Music and movies sound great, especially when paired with a balanced-sounding set of speakers.

  • -

The redundant, proprietary FlareConnect system offers mirroring functionality that can be replicated with Play-Fi. Like almost every AV receiver on the market, the Onkyo sounds even better with home theater than music.

High definition surround sound isn’t only a matter of having nice speakers. In the process of creating high quality audio, distortion can weasel its way into a signal at countless junctures.

My old Yamaha amp blew up and I got the Onkyo 686 for a really great price. my excitment was extinguished after to accEQ setup. It definitely sounded better but the levels were all wrong and the bass was WAY too loud. The Yamaha 673 set up the speakers perfect every time.

I bought this as an upgrade to my Onkyo TX-NR636 As I wanted to be able to handle 4K HDR signals and have my AVR continue to control all my AV hardware. Setup is pretty straightforward. Unlike the 636, the 686 only has 1 location for the Audessy setup, rather than the previous 3.

My old Onkyo AV receiver developed a slight fault, so it was obviously time for an upgrade to a unit with 4K and Dolby Atmos capability. After agonising for ages, I opted to stay with Onkyo as I have always been very happy with their products, settling for a TXNR686, and I am so glad I did!

I've had this a few months now, so I feel I can be a bit more objective over it. The sound is better than my previous Yamaha as it' simply just louder. However with the main feature being Spotify connect for me, it's a little bit flaky, I'm not able to use it about 50% of the time, which is very...

The sound detail on the Onkyo is really good. I had a Denon before which was a 5 year old model and it really struggled to give out ample sound in the back speakers. The Onkyo does if with great pleasure. Yes there is some hissing at the back if the source is poor. Just miss the 4K upscaling.

I bought the Onkyo TXNR686 to replace my old Onkyo TXNR609 that has given up the ghost after 7 years.I went to my nearest store in Exeter to have a look what was available and the manager Mark was most helpful in assisting me in my quest to get another Onkyo as I love the ease of use and the build...
