The Olympus E-M5 is more than just a pretty face. It matches classic style with fast auto focus, a full feature set and great hardware like a built-in EVF. It's costly, but it's likely to please photographers of any skill level.
-
+
Good images and video, DSLR-like feature set, Compact, stylish form factor
-
-
Costly body-only configuration, grip and lenses add expense, A 2x crop factor doesn't lend itself to wide angle shooting
If you can afford the EM-5 and you’re in the market for a MFT, yes, you should buy it. That might sound a little niche, but MFT cameras are becoming insanely popular and insanely expensive, so there’s real demand for what Olympus is offering here.
-
+
Great battery life, Superior image quality, even in low light, You can really push ISO without sacrificing resolution, Durability, Very powerful auto-focus and image stabilization technology
-
-
Button design, No pop-up flash – accessory only, There can be some in-camera digging before you get your customized settings up and running
If you're looking for something a lot better, faster, and more sophisticated than a point-and-shoot that can stand up to your adventures, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 is a great choice.
-
+
A dust-and-weather-sealed design distinguishes the Olympus OM-D E-M5 from the rest of the interchangeable-lens crowd, and its class-leading performance doesn't hurt, either. Plus, it's got an interesting, relatively streamlined shooting design.

-
The photo quality is solid, but not outstanding, especially if you shoot only JPEG.
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 is certainly the most capable Micro Four Thirds camera we've reviewed and arguably the most likeable mirrorless model yet. It falls down a little bit on its continuous focusing but we have absolutely no complaints about the image quality.
-
+
Very good image quality, even at high ISO, Bright, punchy JPEGs make the most of camera's capability, Very fast autofocus with most Micro Four Thirds lenses, Weather-sealed body, Built-in image stabilization helps increase number of sharp shots, Good level of direct control despite small body,...
-
-
Focus tracking distinctly unreliable, Small controls sometimes awkward (especially with cold/gloved hands), No in-camera correction of CA (which can be problematic with 12-50mm kit zoom), Default JPEG settings a bit keen to blur detail away, Several useful features hidden in obscure and...
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 is the flagship mirrorless camera from Olympus. It is an advanced model that delivers a professional feature set in a relatively compact weather-sealed body.
-
+
Excellent image quality, Very good metering, Reliable Automatic White-Balance, Superb built-in stabilization, Virtually no shutter-lag, Fast contrast-detect AF, Good shot-to-shot speed, Very responsive, Excellent automatic Manual Focus Assist, Unique Live-Bulb mode, Highly customizable interface,...
-
-
Poor color accuracy, Low-contrast EVF, Not always Exposure-Priority and frequently wrong Live-Histogram, Modal Exposure-Compensation, Some tiny buttons, Uncomfortable eyelets, Poorly placed tripod mount, Low battery life, Rear control-dial uncomfortably high
Micro Four Thirds cameras are coming fast and furious, and getting better and more technically impressive all the time. For its latest offering, however, Olympus looked backward for inspiration rather than forward. The OM-D E-M5's design harkens back to the 1970's, to Olympus' old OM-1 film SLR.
-
+
Excellent image and video quality, Blistering performance, Extremely attractive
-
-
Expensive for a Micro Four Thirds camera, Smaller sensor than most $1,000-plus cameras
The OM-D E-M5 is a new, gorgeous, retro-tastic Micro Four Thirds camera from Olympus. It is the first from Olympus to come with an electronic viewfinder, and is aimed at enthusiasts who want a serious MFT option. We've fallen deeply in love with this camera, here's why.
-
+
Low noise at very high ISO settings, Superb handling, Excellent image stabilization, Fast and accurate auto-focus, Gorgeous retro-inspired design
-
-
Cramped and small back buttons, Less noise difference at lower ISOs, Camera strap hinders handling, Banding in some very high ISO shots
This is our First Look at a pre-production E-M5 sample. We were fortunate enough to get our hands on an E-M5 for about a day. Unfortunately, they didn't send out a battery with the camera due to the fact that Olympus America only had one battery and charger for all of their pre-productioon samples.
With the Olympus OM-D E-M5 you’ve got the manufacturer taking what was great about the original OM line of SLR units with a collection of fabulous add-ons that work perfectly well in the digital world.
This past weekend I was able to spend time with some folks from Olympus to pick up an OM-D E-M5 for review. I get to play with a lot of cameras due to my job running Photo.net, and that’s something I appreciate. But there are cameras and there are “cameras!
If your looking for a great camera to replace your older large dslr then don't hesitate. This is the future of camera's (mirror-less). There are plenty of stories on the net of photographers who traded in their bulky dslr systems for this great camera and I have done the same with no regrets
-
+
The image quality is awesome even compared to dslr's. When compared to the t3i rebel it is equal in some and better in others. It really is a do all camera with exceptional image quality. Check out some samples at the photolisticlife website.

Not a lot of information out there about this camera because it is so new. Usually there is a companion book that is helpful for those looking to get the most out of their camera.
I have been shooting the Omd Em-5 underwater and on land for almost a year now and it has not disappointed. Light weight and compact size is great for traveling to destinations where bag size is always an issue. Highly recommend the Omd series cameras.
It's all about finding the right camera in your particular and preferred shooting scenarios. In 'regular' ambient lighting simply bumping up the ISO when needed, helps with avoiding flash, and producing bright sharp images. The blazing fast autofocus is really something to experience.

Fast autofocus. Rich dynamic colours. Sharp, clean, bright images (up to 3200 ISO no problem). Beautifully designed body. Complete weatherproof system with selected lenses. Highly customizable. Excellent EVF performance and resolution.

No integrated flash. Somewhat pricey. Small buttons could be a challenge to access, especially for those with larger hands and fingers.
