I bought this to experiment with my Olympus 45mm 1.8 as a macro lens. It works as expected. You'll want to be using manual focus while using this. Auto focus tends to hunt a lot even in good light, but with macro manual focus is probably best anyway.
This converter is perfect for people who don't want to invest in a dedicated macro lens but like being able to get closer. I have found it allows my 45mm to focus much closer than otherwise, and the sharpness remains excellent. Attached are some examples.
This is a great option for someone who is wanting to have access to macro photography without purchasing the M.Zuiko 60mm macro lens. It works well with the Olympus prime lenses 25mm or 45mm. It's compact and fits well into a smaller camera bag suitable for mirrorless 4/3 cameras.
I bought this as a less expensive alternative to a giant, mega expensive lens. I'm a novice photographer and only very recently graduated from a point and shoot, so spending a lot on different lenses isn't something I want to do right now.
The five stars are as an optical macro converter. Comparison to extension tubes not considered. I have several such 2-element, achromatic converters, old Oly A-Macro and B-Macro and more recent Nikon 5T and 6T, as well as the old 3-element, +7.7 diopter, Oly A-Lifesize Macro.
One of my favorite accessories to slip into my pocket when I don't want to lug around my M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 Macro. It has a threaded mount for 46mm filter size lenses and with the included step-down ring it can be screwed on 37mm filter size lenses.
Much better quality than regular stackable diopters. Good image quality. Check to see what lens is compatible through the filter size. You may need another Inexpensive step up ring or 2!
I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality of this converter when used in combination with the M.Zuiko 14-42mm EZ lens on an OM-D E-M10 - it seems to be comparable to the Zuiko 35mm f3.5 macro lens I have been using to date.
A nice introduction into macro photography for lenses with 37mm & 46mm lens threads. I use it on my Olympus EZ lens. It's small and preserves the pancake dimensions. It works without having to take off the adapter for a normal zoom range as you would with various closeup filter strengths.
This Macro Converter is a compromise. I'm an amateur photographer who wanted to do some Macro shots on the cheap and this lets me get pretty close; keeping my camera bag light, and my wallet heavy. On my 14-42 Kit lens it doesn't make a lot of difference.
