The Z50 is a capable and comfortable camera to use, for a wide range of photography. The autofocus system is a little more awkward than it needs to be, but generally it's a hugely competitive camera. If the lenses you want to use exist, it should be on your list of cameras to consider.

The new Nikon Z50 mirrorless camera is the smallest interchangeable-lens DX-format camera Nikon offers, and as you can probably tell, I liked it a lot. It’s small and rugged with surprisingly high build quality for the price, and its thin, sleek design is very attractive.

The Nikon Z 50 is not just a scaled down version of the Nikon Z 6 and Z 7. Nikon has done a remarkable job of giving such a small camera such a solid one-handed grip, but quite apart from the size of the camera, we were impressed by the 16-50mm pancake kit lens which is one of the slimmest APS-C kit...

  • +

Compact size and handling, 4K video, 11fps continuous shooting, Super-slim 'pancake' kit lens

  • -

Single UHS I SD card slot, 300-shot battery life, Awkward flip-under selfie screen

Available at a great price and with lots to like - including build quality, handling, a very usable screen and viewfinder - the Z50 might be the new kid on the APS-C mirrorless block, but it’s easily one of the best out there.

  • +

Great handling, Attractively priced, Excellent image quality

  • -

Tilting screen mechanism no good for tripod mounting, Only a single UHS-I card slot, No joystick for selecting AF points

It is the era of the mirrorless camera and Nikon has come up with some seriously good cameras which give a tough fight to the big names in the mirrorless segment. Their latest addition to this segment is the Nikon Z50. This is a DX format...

The Nikon Z50 has hit the ground running, so to speak, with a camera body that has excellent ergonomics, a solid design, great handling, and easy to access settings. The body is compact, giving you the benefits of a mirrorless camera system, but not too compact, and not at the expense of handling...

  • +

Excellent ergonomics and handling, Excellent image quality and noise performance, New DX Z-Mount lenses perform well, Compact camera body, Clear logical menu system (more advanced section is colour coded), Fast continuous shooting, 4K UHD video with multiple options

  • -

Limited APS-C Z mount lenses so far, Doesn't feature in-camera image stabilisation, MicroUSB socket

The Nikon Z50 is an excellent debut for the company in the crowded APS-C mirrorless market. It’s an ideal travel camera, and it’s also a great option for those looking to move from a Nikon DSLR, or who just love the brand.

  • +

Great handling, Good value, Impressive viewfinder and screen, Great for travel, SD cards more common than XQD

  • -

Tilt screen can’t be used with tripod, No joystick for selecting AF points, Just a single UHS-I card slot, Limited native lens range

After launching the Z6 and Z7 last year, the next thing people wanted to know is how Nikon planned to expand its new family of mirrorless cameras so that more people could buy them.

Is Nikon's new mirrorless camera for travellers and hobbyists really a match for its Sony and Fujifilm rivals?

I just received my Z50 a few days ago and I love it. I have Nikon DSLRs but I needed a smaller, lighter camera to use when traveling or when I wanted to be more discreet. The Z50 is perfect for this and it also takes excellent pictures. The controls are a breeze and the camera has a lot of features.

I've spent the past two weeks shooting exclusively with the Z50. I shoot a few thousand pictures over the holidays every year in a variety of challenging conditions, so it's the best time for me to put it through its paces for both formal and informal shooting with great and horrible lighting.

I have been using Nikon products for years and traded my trusty D7100 in for the Z50. I got tired of carrying a camera and six lenses around for fun photography (it's an age thing I guess). I have only had the camera for a few weeks but I love the size and weight along with excellent pictures.

Hello Everyone! Recently I've bought a Nikon Z50. In this theme I will be gradually creating a review, adding more and more information. I will also show you pictures I'll get from this camera. I've bought a kit with 16-50/3.5-6.3 and FTZ to use with my other lenses.

I've only had one day to go out and shoot with it but so far I can say it's awesome. I own a couple Nikon DSLRs and numerous lenses but wanted something to just throw in the car so I always had a camera with me without lugging all the equipment. I bought the Z50 with the 16-50mm and 50-250mm lenses.

This camera is very much what I expected from Nikon. If I should give a score I give it a 9 ion a scale of ten. The minor points are the lacking of an anti-dust system. And in-body stabilization with the extra possibilities that go with it.

As a DX shooter with a D7500, a D5500, and 5 DX lenses including the 16-80 who sees my future as full frame Z, I have been looking for a “bridge” that will allow me to start enjoying the benefits of mirrorless, and start investing in full frame Z glass, while not throwing away and obsoleting my...
