Nikon AF Nikkor 35mm f/2D is a good example of a fast wide angle lens that delivers decent performance characteristics at reasonable price. Resolution is not awe-inspiring (primarily due to the border performance at wider apertures), but good enough for majority of users.
First if you are buying this lens for crop body walk straight away. Having this 35 and 35 1.8 dx and i must say they are not comparable at open apertures. 1.8 just wins. For FX users it is a bargain as from F2.5-2.8 delivers pretty god results.
I love this lens for landscapes. Not so wide that you know it was obviously a wide angle. It makes things look natural. The low light capability is excellent at F2. Sharpest at F2.8 or better. See attached photo for how beautiful the perspective of this lens is. Not a bad price either!
I use this when I want a small unobtrusive lens that is ok in low light. Wish it were an f/1.4, but then you're talking about something that costs $1300 more...

So you want a "normal" lens for your dSLR. the 35mm 1:2D is the lens for you! This low profile lens grants the user a 52mm view on the 1.5x DX format Nikon dSLRs with a fast lens for it's size at a good price.

f/2 while fast, but in really low light such as a concert you may have some problems
This lens is very sharp at f2.2 & above on my D750 and since it is a D lens I also use on a Nikon N2000 using B&W film. It's not shabby at f2, just a little soft around the edges. My best purchase in a while.
I like this lens a lot; it has personality. Colors really pop, straight out of the camera and it's extremely sharp at f/8 to the corners, set like most 35mm lenses used outdoors. I have other lenses better suited for indoor use.
I think The 35mm f2d its the best 35mm lens from Nikon, I use it on my Nikon f100 film body and my Nikon d700. Its very sharp and fast autofocus. For bnw photography and also for color. Built like a tank, made in Japan. Very small and practical..
