Despite its obvious quality, this lens does seem to be a little long in the tooth. More suited to specialised macro duties on a tripod than as a general purpose macro lens, it prove extremely hard to hand hold and get decent results.

  • +

Exceptional build quality, Good tripod collar (needed), Good CA/distortion control

  • -

Geriatric autofocus, Dated switching, Narrow depth-of-field

In my opinion, this lens is the top of the line...I can't imagine finding a better micro lens anywhere. It's a quirky, kind of odd lens to operate. The auto-focus is slow and loud. It sounds like you're focusing a blender. And it's not a light lens..

  • +

Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction

  • -

    Slow Focus

I have been looking for a micro lens for a while but this is the one finally stays on my Nikon body. Unlike the newly released NIKKOR lenses, this lens has the buttons on different locations so be sure to look them all before starting using this lens. Quality of glass is excellent!

Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
