Nikon Telephoto AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4D ED-IF Autofocus Lens

I recently started to use this lens for Macro.In combination with the PN-11 extension tube and the D200. And with a solid tripod and use of MLU. With the lens plus tubes you can keep a safe distance which is nice while approaching dragonsflies and damselflies.I have to say that after some practice...

I have never had the money to purchase a 300mm f2.8 so when I purchased a D500 recently I was blown away with the iso capabilities the camera offered. So I started doing some research on line about my options and this lens just caught my eye for its specs but more importantly the price point.

This Nikon 300mm f/4 lens is well suited for travel when you need a moderate "reach" with an Nikon FX camera body, or a "longer reach" with a Nikon DX camera body, while trying to keep the size and weight of your equipment at a minimum.

A fantastic lens. I have used it with a Tamron SP AF 1.4 converter and the Kenko autofocus extension tubes with great results. This lens focuses close by itself and with addition of either the 1.4 converter or the Kenko extension tubes,it makes a great close-up lens with a lot of working distance.

  As others have noted the tripod collar isn't as smooth as on other Nikon lens but I can live it.

Wanting to photograph birds in flight without the weight of a 500-600 mm lens, I decided to give the AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4D IF-ED in combination with the Nikon 2X teleconverter a try.

I own the 18-300 Nikon lens, which is a great all-purpose carry-around lens, but wanted something sharper at the longer focal length. I recently bought this lens, and I am amazed at its sharpness. I prefer to shoot wildlife and birds, and this lens takes awesome sharp images.

I use this lens for wildlife and so far it's been great,Fast to focus and does so accurately and its very sharp, even wide open.Very Impressed with the quality and Optics of this lens.

not light, but lighter than comparable products, allowed me to hike w lens and tripod to observation point. achieved photo of crusader fort/monastery in Israel in deep canyon i had not previously been able to get with other lenses.
