We are still puzzled by why Nikon decided to enter a crowded category like action cams, rather than investing in emerging tech. But if you’re going to do it, you should make big splash, right?

  • +

4K video, Dedicated photo and video buttons, Easy menu system, Electronic image stabilization, Rugged, waterproof body

  • -

Auto-off can’t be disabled, Limited number of video settings, Few manual controls, Stabilization not available in 4K

With a price point, and design, very similar to the GoPro Hero 5, it’s very clear who Nikon is targeting with the KeyMission 170.Unfortunately, although it can produce good images and video, it doesn’t quite have the same number of features as the GoPro, so it seems reasonably unlikely that it will...

I'm disappointed for a few reason. First, before purchasing I read all of these reviews and decided to proceed with a purchase even after reading negative input. I really thought maybe Nikon had addressed a few of these and this product would be wonderful.

Just inboxed and began using the Key Mission 170, and it has several impressive appointments: simple controls, easy to navigate menu, and the best feature - a standard tripod thread mount without using a housing.

Junk! Very Poor Remote Operation (Inconsistent), Very Poor Mobile APP (Does not work most of the time). This is labeled as an action cam but it cannot operate properly in 28 degree weather. Virtually unusable for winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, etc....

  • +

Video quality seems good though fish eye is very evident. No other options for field of view.

  • -

    1. Does not work on cold weather (Not For Winter Use)2. Mobile APP is Very Poor (Unreliable)3. Included Remote is unreliable in connecting to the camera4. Battery Life is very short

Nikon has developed a good competitor to the GoPro. Image quality is good and, in fact, the low light quality seems to be better than GoPro. But, Nikon did not bother to work out the software properly. The Wifi system to control the camera remotely with a smartphone is terrible.

I bought this camera on release as i am a huge Nikon fan. I wanted a action camera to take scuba diving with me and GO PRO had not announced the 5 yet(still would not have bought it if they did).

fps is a lie, it shoots 240 then cuts the audio and auto slows it down to 30.the field of view is not changeable, and it has not been updated since its release.it has almost no videos on it and seems to be swept under the rug by everyone.it has no lens protection other than an underwater flat lens...

This camera has a crazy wide angle fish-eye lense that's not adjustable. So whatever you're filming make sure you get really up close to it or else it will seem pretty small. This camera has no zoom feature. The worst thing about this camera is that it will not turn on or record while being charged.

I bought this camera with the hope that this can exceed my GoPro 5, as this is produced by Canon. Unfortunately, the product is far below GoPro 5. The battery is quite bad as you need to charge it when it is inside the camera. Furthermore, even you don't use it, the battery will drain by itself!

I got this camera for Christmas and so far, I love using it. The 4-star rating comes from the quality of the picture, the width of the lens, and how fun it is to play with. The lack of a 5th star comes from the App functionality, (though I hear it is being addressed) and the battery charge.
