The 36-megapixel Nikon D810 has some pretty big shoes to fill, replacing the much-loved D800 and D800E with a single model. Taking the best of both, this detail-devouring beauty has even greater per-pixel resolution, a wider sensitivity range, greater performance, more capable video capture, and...

  • +

Handles even better than its predecessors; Absolutely spectacular images from the 36-megapixel image sensor; Unusually wide sensitivity range for its resolution; Improved performance and buffer depths; Improved video feature set; Impressive low-light autofocus, Even better ergonomics than the...

Prone to moire and false color with some subjects; No longer available with a low-pass filter; Demands excellent lenses for the best detail; White balance tends warm under tungsten lighting, Lack of low-pass filter makes it more prone to moiré with certain subjects (and unlike the D800-series, you...

The Nikon D810 is one of the best-rounded DSLRs we've ever tested, and as a camera that we've lived and worked with for almost two years, we're confident that it will remain relevant - and useful - for many years to come.

The Nikon D810 DSLR camera has a host of eminently likable features, giving it the flexibility and power that all photographers want in a camera. The D810 works equally well as a camera for shooting sports, for shooting nature photos, and for shooting portraits.

  • +

Brilliant image quality across JPEG, RAW, and TIFF formats, Full frame FX image sensor, Sharper detail than many other DSLRs because Nikon removed anti-aliasing filter, Works fast in viewfinder mode, Very quiet operation, 36-plus-megapixels of resolution allows for cropping of images when required,...

  • -

Heavy camera, especially if you make use of a telephoto lens, Photo files are extremely large in terms of storage space, even JPEG, High price tag, No Wi-Fi, no GPS, no articulated LCD, no touch screen LCD, Maximum burst rate of 5 fps at full resolution could be a little better for pro-level sports...

The Nikon D810 is an exceptional camera and a great successor to the D800/D800E. There are few shooting situations it can't handle, aside from fast-paced sports, where the frame rate is not quite fast enough.

  • +

Extreme sharpness due to lack of anti-aliasing filter, Excellent image quality, Excellent autofocus, and fast image processing, Advanced shutter with superlow vibration, Long battery life

  • -

Noisy images at high ISO, Difficulty locking critical focus in portrait shots

Nikon's latest DSLR is an impressive revision of their highest-resolution cameras. It looks just like a D800 or D800E except the sensor and processor have both been replaced with state-of-the-art components.

  • +

Class-leading retention of details, Very low image-noise, Superb dynamic-range, Very fast autofocus, Extremely responsive, Unmatched image-parameter flexibility, Manual focus assist direction indicator, Excellent weatherproof build quality, Good battery-life

  • -

Poor Automatic White-Balance, Inconsistent Live-view, Instant review delay, Bizarre Auto ISO, Asymmetric card slots, EC button placement not ideal, Exposure Delay mode hidden in menu, Sensitive to lens performance

It almost seems redundant to say it on a camera that costs more than two grand, but the photographic quality of the D810 is something very special. The move from a "consumer" DSLR up to a full-frame camera brings with it a new look.

As you have seen from the previous pages of this review, there is a lot to say about the new and improved features of the Nikon D810, whether comparing it to the previous generation D800E or other Nikon DSLRs.

If you're serious about image quality, especially for large prints, gallery showings and shooting for major publications like Arizona Highways (America's premier journal of the finest contemporary Southwestern photography), the new Nikon D810 replaces every Nikon that has come before it.

The Nikon D810 is a great camera. It is so, so good. Stills and video are solid. And on the video side, the included Ninja 2 recorder gets the most out of the camera. Aside from a few personal complaints regarding the controls of the Nikon D810, which is probably only because I am a Canon shooter, I...

I've owned this camera for almost three years now, and in that time have used it exclusively on a tripod for landscape and architectural photography. I shoot architecture professionally, and landscapes as a passion.

Love this camera. I am not a novice by any means and pulling the camera out of the box was a treat to behold however, this camera is far more complex than the standard Canon DSLR I am used to.

  • +

Its pricey of course but you know that or you wouldnt be buying it.The construction of the camera is a joy to behold. Pictures are magnificentand you know (at least for a little while) you are holding one of the finest cameras made.

  • -

Out of the box tres difficile to simply get to my desired settings. The manual is infinite in its tiny grandeur and you will definitely need yourMagnifying glasses to read the ultra fine print. A BIGGER manual next time Nikon!

The camera is excellent like every Nikon that I got. great image quality.<br /><br />The camera weight is OK but when you added the power battery grip is heavy, you can notice the difference but you can take advantage of the weight to get better stabilization.

  • +

Easy To Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD

I sold my venerable D3s for the D810. I have gotten into macro photography in a big way and having a sensor that is 3x the resolution of the D3s is huge, as I like to crop many of my macro shots, and being able to still have a large file after cropping is very nice!

  • +

Image size! lighter than Nikon's traditional pro cameras picture quality is simply outstanding maintains traditional Nikon pro body controls and locations

  • -

Wish Wi-Fi was integrated Must get the MB-D12 grip to make it "feel" and hold like a pro series camera

I bought this a week ago and have not had a chance to use it yet. The box did not contain a manual which should have been in the box, since the box states that it is part of the box.

Will use the Nikon d810+24-120f/4 along with a 20mm prime for travel to replace my D700 with heavier lenses.

  • +

imaging resolution/detail focusing speed quiet shutter price of "kit" lens when purchased together 24-120 f/4 serves as a "jack-of-all-trades", with reasonable focus speed, sharpness and zoom range.

I have owned my D810 since it first came out 3 years ago. This is my main camera for all my hired work. Its fast, trust worthy, and accurate color. I was about to buy a secon D810, but now that the D850 was released, makes sense to preorder the D850!

After 3 months' careful study, I can conclude this camera's sensor has green/blue color cast. It makes red and orange less vibrant, actually quite dull. This is not correctable in WB nor post process.
