Among a flurry of new Coolpix models to arrive from Nikon, the manufacturer also announced its first ever FX-format DSLR dedicated to astrophotography – the Nikon D810A. Here's what you need to know
You astro people know who you are. Canon has been offering the occasional astro version on and off for years, and now we can get an astro Nikon. If you find my work helpful, my biggest source of support for this free website is when you use this link to get yours at B&H or at Adorama .

The Nikon D810A is designed specifically for astrophotography, and it delivers excellent results. As with the other Nikon D8x0 series cameras, the Nikon D810A has very good build quality, and the camera gives excellent handling with a solid metal body and weather sealing the camera should be...

Needs the better / best lenses to get the best quality from the camera, Buttons don't illuminate in low light, which would be handy for night photography, Higher sensitivity to red could cause issues for general photography, Nikon D810 offers lower ISO of ISO64/32, Live view focus can be slow
The D810A is a far more advanced model than any previous astro-DSLR, and is really the only choice for serious astrophotographers. The obvious downside over Canon’s 60Da is that it offers less reach on account of the larger sensor, though the 36.3MP resolution does compensate for this.
Having used a D5200 to get impressive astropics, the step up to the D810a coupled with the AWESOME 14mm f/2.8 prime lens has been unreal. Under far less than ideal skies the D810a/14mm pulled in detail of the summer Milky Way Galaxy.

I absolutely love this camera! It takes amazing photos of the night sky!
Live view with 200% magnification is great for manually focusing lenses on stars at night. Many other useful features for shooting in the dark, such as built in view finder blind, level system on live view screen, retains shutter delay after turning off, easy to find controls such as live view...
