If you are interested in video, the improvements in the D7200 probably do make it worth the difference in price. It also offers Auto ISO adjustment when shooting videos in manual mode, clean HDMI output to an external recorder (at the same time as recording video to an internal memory card too) and...

If someone were to ask for a recommendation for an enthusiast DSLR in this price category, we wouldn’t hesitate a moment – the D7100 is it. For all the points detailed above, it’s a wonderful camera and really geared for someone who takes their photography seriously.

  • +

Superb, sharp stills, Extremely fast and accurate focusing, Advanced photographers will love it

  • -

Poor placement of video button, Movie capture still cumbersome, Beware of noise in 1.3x mode

If you're in the market for a serious D-SLR, but don't want to go full-frame, the Nikon D7100 is the way to go; it's our Editors' Choice camera in its category.

The Nikon D7100 is perhaps one of the most complete enthusiast DSLRs we’ve seen to date, with an abundance of functionality packed into a reasonably compact body. It’s certainly a more significant improvement than certain other recently updated DSLRs, and having such a rounded feature set means it’s...

Superb LCD screen, responsive, excellent specifications, accurate AWB system, intuitive metering system, high degree of customisation offered

The Nikon D7100 is Nikon's replacement for the ageing D7000 and, in the absence of a replacement for the D300s, becomes Nikon's flagship DX camera. Officially it sits between the D7000, which remains in Nikon's line-up, and the full-frame D600.

  • +

Excellent quaity and high ISO noise performance., 51-point AF system which works at f8., Dust and moisture sealed body., 1.3x crop mode., Built-in stereo mics and headphone socket.

Lack of OLPF makes little difference to image quality., Poor continuous RAW shooting., Poor Full-time-servo AF in Live view., Need accessories for Wi-Fi and GPS.

The D7100 is a well-built enthusiast DSLR that offers impressive image quality and easy access to shooting parameters along with a high degree of customization options. Video output is a bit disappointing and a very small image buffer limits sports shooters to JPEG-only mode.

  • +

Outstanding low ISO performance in both JPEG and Raw files, Very good default JPEG settings, Excellent build quality and very good ergonomics and handling, Effective auto white balance in a variety of lighting conditions, Comprehensive camera customization options, Auto ISO selection can be linked...

Small image buffer severely limits burst capacity in Raw-enabled modes, Slow AF in live view and video modes (compared to mirrorless APS-C cameras), No real-time aperture adjustment preview in live view, Noticeably soft video output, In video mode, the 1.3x crop setting produces upsampled output, No...

The Nikon D7100 is the newest of Nikon’s D-SLRs with a DX sensor (APS-C size). This is a new sensor without a low-pass filter, a very unique feature in this class because nearly all compact and SLR cameras use low-pass filter systems to avoid moiré and aliasing effects.

Nikon’s D7100 has been named as the new flagship DSLR of the APS-C lineup. The camera, in a way, then is the successor to both the D300s and the D7000. Indeed, Nikon’s D7000 was tough to keep in stock because everyone wanted it.

  • +

Great image quality, Excellent build quality, Simple to learn if you're an experienced Nikon user, Very lightweight when used with primes, Dual SD card ports mean that you can shoot for quite a long time, Fast autofocusing when the specific point is selected, Interesting crop mode

  • -

Slower focusing performance when all of the points are selected (auto), No aperture control in video mode, Focusing points don't go to edges

For 2013, Nikon has announced the new D7100 dSLR, or "HD-SLR" because this camera is designed to capture stills at a 24.1 megapixel resolution as well as Full HD video (1080/30p). This ruggedly built camera includes the same moisture and dust resistance as the Nikon D300S, and the shutter will last...

Slow AF while shooting in Live View mode, We were only able to reach 5fps burst shooting (6fps claimed), Unacceptable noise levels in the Hi settings, No screen protector to save the 3.2-inch LCD, Steep price for a non-full frame camera

This older model is basically a D7200 with a very usable, but arguably smaller, buffer. Oh, and no barely usable wifi inside, but BH actually threw in that accessory with my purchase.

Has every feature I was looking for at a great price! The camera arrived in Nikon's standard refurb box. It looks brand new, and might as well be. All the accys are new and it looks like a battery and memory card have never been installed.

People have asked where I got the camera and I have told them "Beach Camera". The service and timely shipment was great. Will shop at Beach some more in the future for my photographic needs.

Great camera. Started just on "Auto" and took great pictures. Am learning more about the various other modes -- shutter, aperture priority,etc-- and other features of the camera. I use the instruction manual and a third party instruction book to delve deeper into everything this camera can do.

    None so far.

I love this camera. I purchased it to shoot bird's and wildlife. It's fast and the auto focus is excellent. Sometimes I take pics of random items simply because I love to use it and I have no wildlife handy. I have absolutely no complaints yet and don't expect to have any.

Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD, Quiet

After taking around 1500 pics a spec of dust was discovered and removed from either the sensor or mirror. I cleaned both at the same time with a rocket blower so I am not sure which one had the spec on it.

  • +

High resolution. Great package for the money.

  • -

Ease of learning how to use.

12 January 2014

Was jumping back and forth between this and the Canon 70D because my friend owns one and after some serious thought about what I would be using the camera for I came to the conclusion that the D7100 was the right one for me. The picture quality is outstanding in RAW format and JPEG.

  • +

Excellent photo quality Controls are easy to find and adjust Feels comfortable even when holding for extended periods of time Feels rugged and well protected

  • -

Liveview adjustments-I don't rely on Liveview adjustments and if you read online one of the biggest if not the only gripe about this camera is the lack of adjustments you can make during Liveview. That being said, I only use it to review my photos.

Was skeptical as first, expecting following up-sell by seller, but there was none. product arrived as is. It is a pleasant first time experience. Thanks.

I have had this camera almost a year and still learning the settings. I bought this camera knowing that Nikon was releasing the D7200 but why wait and buy it since they still have a few years to catch them little fixes and bugs.

Having previously owned a D90, I am blown away by the significant improvements of the D7100. First off the upgrade in construction quality is immediately noticeable and remains apparent when handling the camera for extended times.
