Though competition's increasing for low-end full-frame cameras, the Nikon D610 holds its own; that said, while slightly faster than its predecessor it's not a whole lot different.

  • +

The Nikon D610 continues the D600's tradition of a great set of shooting features, comfortable and intelligent design, and excellent photo quality and performance.

  • -

Photos still display some unrecoverable clipping in the highlights that you don't expect in a camera of its caliber, and unlike the overhauled D5300, the D610 requires an extra-cost Wi-Fi dongle for connectivity.

We really like the Nikon D610, as many of our photographs we shot were spectacular. At the end of the day, however, the kit didn’t really wow us like the Sony A7, which is a breakthrough camera.

  • +

Superior full-frame stills, Quality Full HD videos, Good feel and response

  • -

Expensive, heavy – but totally expected, Specs not world-class, Onboard mono mic

9.4/10

The D610 is likely the best buy in full frame DSLR cameras right now, as it is a new and improved version of the very popular D600.

  • +

Excellent Image Quality, Amazing Dynamic Range, High quality performance, Full range of features, Dual SD card slots, Shutter fix is an improvement over the D600, full frame, weather sealed camera with loads of features for the price

  • -

Small AF coverage compared to some other full-frame DSLRs, Wifi not included, purchase as optional accessory, AF struggles a bit in very low light, gets there but is slow, 1/200 sync speed for flash, 1/4000 top shutter speed (same as D600)

The D610 is the D600 for all photographic purposes. Image-quality is identical with very slightly improved AWB and speed. Truly, these changes are minimal. The D600 being an excellent DSLR, so is the D610 without a doubt. The Nikon D610 essentially replaces the D600 with an identical twin.

Class-leading image noise, Class-leading dynamic-range, Good color-accuracy after tweaking, Speedy autofocus, Generally fast and responsive, Ultra-short black-out, Flexible self-timer and exposure delay, Very sharp LCD, Highly customizable with plenty of controls, Dual memory cards can provide...

Under-exposure more frequent than usual, Light entering OVF skews metering, Increased softness at ISO 3200+, Strong anti-alias filter, EC button placement not ideal, Indistinct ISO button, Poor Live-view, not Exposure-Priority, Bizarre Auto ISO, Exposure Delay mode hidden in menu, No 16:9 guidelines...

The Nikon D610 brings full-frame capabilities to a larger audience while retaining most enthusiast-friendly features. Image quality at high ISO sensitivities is very good, and a wealth of customization options enables quick access to most shooting controls.

  • +

Outstanding high ISO performance in both JPEG and Raw files, High quality JPEG images at default settings, Wide dynamic range in Raw files, Consistently pleasing metering and white balance results, Solid build quality and weather-sealing, Responsive camera when adjusting settings and handling, Dual...

The D610 is in a pivotal position in the Nikon line-up. In one sense it's a pared back verson of the D800, in another it's an upscaled version of the D7100, in terms of sensor size at least.

  • +

24.3 Megapixel FX CMOS sensor., 39-point AF with 9 cross-type sensors., 6fps full-frame continuous shooting., Compatible with DX lenses., 1080p30 and uncompressed HDMI out., Built-in AF motor for non AF-S lenses., Sensor contamination fixed (anecdotal).

  • -

Resolution drops to 10.5 MPix with DX lenses., No exposure control during movie recording., Bracketing limited to 3 frames., Wifi and GPS are separate accessories.

Nikon offers an update with the D610, and it's a pretty solid camera.

As I have pointed out in the beginning of this review, the Nikon D610 is what the D600 should have been when it was initially launched. Without fully acknowledging the dust issue on the D600, Nikon released the D610 as if it was a whole different camera.

The D610 is my favorite Nikon DSLR. It's the same thing as last year's D600, which was also my favorite. The D610 has the optimum resolution for FX. The D800 has too many pixels which clogs my hard drives, slows my workflow, and the D800 can't shoot as fast for the same reason.

Nikon’s HD-SLR system is endlessly expandable. From legendary NIKKOR lenses and Nikon Speedlights for endless creative expression to the WU-1b Wireless Adapter for Wi-Fi sharing and camera control, your system can grow with you.

I bought the D610 second hand in 2015. i was just starting photography and i wanted to join aboard the FF ship after a few months with my entry level canon kiss x5. Main reason for buying the D610: it was the more affordable FF option i had at that time.

I use both the D610 and D750 as part of my kit, originally buying the D610 as a second body for my D750. They are so similar that sometimes I need check to see which one I am holding. The main thing that I miss from the D610 is the flippy screen on the D750.

I own it since march 2015, the shutter has little over 15000. No oil spots. Sure the sensor will over time get dusty but it's normal. The ISO range is good.

Took camera on a trip and it performed very well. Images had high resolution and very good color on auto white balance.

  • +

Small, great Resolution, plenty of functions and accepts all Nikon lenses.

  • -

Body could be tougher. When shooting raw it processes a little slow.

After one year of use, i have a feeling that this camera is very underrated, the IQ is top notch, it has everything i need. Best camera investment i have made so far. Value for money is 10/10.

I shoot time-lapseand my last four outings were ruined by oil spots. Not dust. Had the camera professionally cleaned ... next outing, boom. Ive wet cleaned the next three times and mid-shoot spots in left third of the frame. Clean then about 200 frames in, it appears.

I got this after owning 2 Nikon DSLRs (a D70 and D5500). I can now use all my Nikkor lenses, AI, non AI modified to AI, AF, and AF-S. The D70 allowed my older AF lenses, the D5500 I could not use any but AF-S.

Big upgrade from D700. Focus with my 85mm 1.4 is much improved. Images are sharper and it was worth it for the dual card slots alone. No more worries about card failure after an important shoot.

  • +

    All around improvement

  • -

Smaller focusing pattern but not really much of a issue
