The Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR is a low-cost telezoom lens for DX format SLRs. It's light, compact, and delivers quality images as long as you don't zoom in all the way.

Light and compact., Long telephoto reach., Effective image stabilization., Good image quality., Quiet, smooth autofocus., Affordable.

Narrow aperture., Not great for manual focus., Some distortion when zoomed., Modest vignette., Loses some resolution at the long end.
Overall Nikon should be really congratulated on their recent launches in that segment. Their line-up of kit lenses has always been good and rich. Now, spending a relatively small sum of money, amateur photographers might enlarge their focal range in practically both directions.

good image quality of images in frame centre,, sensible image quality on the edge of the frame in the 70-200 mm range,, lack of problems with spherical aberration,, moderate distortion,, slight coma,, fast, silent and accurate autofocus,, efficient image stabilization,, good price quality ratio.

noticeable longitudinal chromatic aberration,, high level of lateral chromatic aberration in 200-300 mm focal range,, plastic casing and mount.
The Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens is a great performer, especially when you consider the price. Currently, you can pick up the VR version for less than £300, while the non-VR version, which is otherwise the same, for less than £200.
I bought this lens with the D5600 lens kit and I have loved it ever since. Although this is not a Vibration Reduction lens and people might think it is a cheap lens, it is the opposite. Very good for fast action shots and close ups from a far distance.
This lens is a very nice walk around lens for a wildlife photographer. It is light, handles nicely, and focuses quickly. It produces sharp, well focused images reliably. If you have one of the newer Nikon cameras that work fully with the new AF-P lenses, then this lens is a no brainer.
Some years ago, I had a Nikkor 70-300mm lens for my Nikon D80. It was a great lens, but weighed a ton, barely fit into almost any bag if attached to the camera. After a few months I sold it.This new lens is a whole other story.

Like with any long zoom lens, a bit slow on the aperture side of things.
I got this lens about 7 months ago and I love it. I have taken great shots of eagles on the Hudson. Many shots of them in the trees and in flight all without the aid of a tripod all handheld. The shots come out fantastic. It may not be a pro lens but for me it is just what I need.
My Nikon D7100 can with a 40-180mm lens, which took great pictures. when focusing in on an object or person, the lens field of view captures most of the object (depending on how close I was, and zoom). However, I wanted a lens that would focus closer, at a distance. This lens is perfect for that.

I have had this lens for a short time. I bought it for use with a D7200 body. But since my 70-200 lens is in for repair, I have been using this dx 70-300 on my D850. Have been getting surprisingly good results. Don't know how durable a plastic lens will be, but for the price it is worth the risk.
Purchased this lens 2 months ago and the more I use it, the more I like it. Not for low light by any stretch, but otherwise takes great photos, focus very fast and very easy to handle. Under ideal conditions, as good (and quite a bit lighter) as my DX 17-55 which is 5 times the price !
I've been an amateur shutterbug for several decades, and this zoom lens works really well.......excellent VR, fast autofocus, nice images, and really lightweight which makes it great for travel.
Just starting to play with it. Seems great. Very, very sharp at 300mm;(have not really tried it at shorter focal lengths; assum it would be just as sharp if not sharper). 100% crops to pixel peep look excellent. Using it on a D500 helps, of course. Relatively light; no sense that it is heavy.
