The Nikon 1 AW1 offers the flexibility of an ILC with the underwater capability of a rugged camera. This unique camera is great for the adventure enthusiast.
Waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, and freezeproof, Neutral colors, Fills a unique product niche
Poorly placed action mode control, handgrip is less than ideal
The Nikon 1 J3 is a solid ILC, but it didn’t overwhelm us. However, take that same camera and make it waterproof and shockproof, name it the AW1, and it’s hard to not make an overwhelming recommendation. Also, there’s nothing else in the world like it.
Waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof, Produces better images than rugged compacts, Solid construction
Average lens, Lower quality images at higher ISO settings, Only two rugged 1 Nikkor lenses available right now
Nikon 1 AW1 is waterproof (up to 15 metres) shockproof and freezeproof. Here’s our take on how it delivers underwater and above it
The Nikon 1 AW1 is absolutely unique. It is the only waterproof or shockproof interchangeable lens camera every made. Its relatively large 1" CMOS sensor provide it with image-quality superior to all other waterpoof cameras.
Waterproof and shockproof construction, Excellent metering, Realistic image colors, Good white-balance, Usable up to ISO 6400 for small prints, Fast Phase-Detect AF, Class-leading continuous drive, Quick shutter-lag, Ultra quiet, Sharp and crisp LCD with fast refresh rate
Above average image noise for a mirrorless, General image softness, Limited dynamic range, Limited lens selection, Wrong framing of video in image mode, Unresponsive at times, Not Exposure-Priority LCD, Very few direct controls, Short battery-life
The AW1 is an interesting camera, and one that we're very curious to try out when final production samples become available. We've had some time with a (very) pre-production sample, and although we haven't had the opportunity to actually shoot with it, our brief experience suggests that the AW1 does...
Sometimes a lot of things can happen real fast: a car that pulls out in front of you, dinner that burns, a child that falls, all in the blink of an eye. But when do you actually get to have something amazing happen real fast? How about 60 frames in a second? That’s fast; that’s exciting.
Waterproof, shockproof, mirrorless and with a 14mp sensor larger than most point-and-shoot sensors, the Nikon 1 AW1 is the only camera in its class. It seemed an ideal choice for a photographer with a bad case of pixelitis who was going to ride an overgrown innertube down the raging rapids of the...
The Nikon AW1 is a nice, small camera that weighs less than 8 ounces and can be the perfect addition to your travel photography bag. The features and weatherproofing allow for use in just about any situation providing the technology to produce the best images possible in a small package.
A durable camera with an interchangeable lens
The 14.2MP Nikon 1 AW1 is a revolutionary camera, being the first interchangeable lens model that can be used underwater without waterproof housing. Its well-built body can be dropped from up to 2m or used in dusty or freezing conditions. Image quality and low light performance are both good.
My aw1 leaked at 15ft in the battery cover, check recent reviews on Nikon website as this is NOT an uncommon problem. Worst part is when your camera breaks Nikon wants almost full price for you to pay for a new one, Horrible warranty and camera is prone to fogging and leaking underwater!
takes nice pictures above and below water but and a big BUt it is only good for snorkeling .took it down 29 ft and it leaked and quit. nikon offers a 2 yr warranty good but the bad is they would not fix and only replace with a j5 series and its not waterproof
Camera and the rest of the package is great, the flotation wrist strap is cheap and came apart allowing the camera to drop onto concrete, good news is it only scratched the outside of the lens. The silicon cover helped save the camera.
Easy to Use, Great Resolution, Small / Compact
Nikon AW1 with CF-N6000 silicon jacket. The Nikon AW1 has the makings of a standout camera. It offers a feature set that is not only highly desirable, but is unmatched by anything else on the market.
A waterproof camera that's ready for any adventure.
I used my Nikon AW1 one time on my trip to Bahamas then again in Cancun. The camera started leaking from the battery compartment when I was using it at Cancun. Now I ended up with a $1000+ paper weight (I used it less then 10 times).
Wish it had built in wifi to phone and viewfinder. On whole great camera takes excellent pictures. Liked waterproof for general outdoors in PAC NW weather vs snorkeling
Hard to use underwater, display to dark & battery needs 3x more power to get about an hour of video! Great image quality just a pain in the butt! Why wasn't this BETA tested by divers!
When I bought this camera two years ago I thought it was fantastic. Unfortunately my opinion has changed drastically. IT IS NOT WATERPROOF!!! I used it three time snorkeling. On the third trip water got into the battery compartment. Now it's on it's way to Nikon to see if it can be salvaged.
Leaked!!! Useless as a camera!!
