The newest version of Google Chromecast is basically identical to the old one and falls short of the budget competition from Amazon and Roku.

The super-affordable Chromecast streams Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Pandora, HBO Now and thousands of other apps and games to your TV using an smartphone, PC or even voice as the controller. It hides neatly behind your TV.
-

The lack of a dedicated remote means you always need a smartphone, tablet or PC nearby to use it. Competitors at the same price offer physical remotes and onscreen displays, which are easier to use. There still no app support for Amazon Prime Video.
The new Google Chromecast media streamer is almost completely unchanged from its previous version. It's still functional and affordable, but without 4K it's much less appealing than the competition.

Inexpensive., Responsive., Lots of supported apps., Can mirror mobile device screens and display Chrome tabs.

The latest Google Chromecast is still a good buy for anyone looking for a simple, affordable streaming option, but if you already have a second-gen model, you should pass.

Quick and easy setup , Affordable , Casting from phone to TV still dirt-simple
-

Few upgrades over previous model , Does not automatically pause videos for calls , Amazon video not Cast-compatible
“Google’s 2018 Chromecast is essentially just the old Chromecast with a new coat of paint.”
The new Google Chromecast is fast and intuitive, but the attractive little dongle is behind the times.

+
Fast performance, Inexpensive, Intuitive interface

Boring, stripped-down design, No significant improvements over second gen
Very little has been added to the third-generation Chromecast, but it still represents superb value for money

No UI or physical remote, No 4K support
For years Chromecast has been the best value in HD streaming video players, and that hasn’t changed with the 3rd Generation model that released in 2018. If you want to turn any TV into a smart TV capable of streaming Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and many, many more, this is the cheapest - and...

I had never tried a google project before and I was hesitant on which product to purchase but I needed a way to get to my apps for prime, HBO, and Netflix bc my living room TV is an older model Samsung flat screen so this Chromecast is very useful and I basically can mirror everything I do on my...
Love how easy it is! Makes watching YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, etc a breeze. I love being able to control what my kids are watching from my phone while I am not within direct reach of the TV. We have it connected to our google nest and love the being able to use the voice commands too.
I purchased this for a loft rm. it’s super easy to install and makes the large screen TV accessible for TV or working from any smart device. Makes it easy to share videos, photos or anything from your device onto a large screen.
Since I bought a Chromecast, I have canceled all cable subscriptions in my home. There is no need anymore. You have spotify, Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, etc. Everything is online. Save yourself a lot of money and add convenience all at the same time. Get a chromecast immediately.
The Chromecast is a great way to show your laptop or phone displays on your TV. However, it requires a local WiFi with Internet for the connection. Some house networks wont allow such a connection. I had to set up a DSL and Router to make this work in one situation.
Have had this for a year and love it. Makes an older TV in my home “smart” cause I can case anything from my home including Netflix and Hulu right to my TV wirelessly.
Excellent for projecting anything from my mobile phone in my TV home. Very easy to install and configure
its ok... i had a little trouble setting it up and still don't know if it is correctly set up..i wanted it to play movies from my laptop to my tv. they will not play because it sees the desktop not the movie playing in the movie player. I tried everything no joy.
My mother and I aren't tech savvy at all. This device is dummy proof! works great. I purchased it to do YouTube workouts while visiting our vacation house. Ended up just watching movies and shows on Netflix. We even connected it to my spectrum app. This device is such a money saver
