Ignore the complainers... This lens surpassed my expectations and is great value for the price. Macro photography is inherently more difficult and this, being a 4-4.5x magnification lens, is certainly not for the faint of heart.THE GOOD- Great price for this type of specialty lens.
I'm very glad I got this lens, especially since the price was hard to beat during a pre-holiday sale. As others have said, this is a fixed-focus lens, so ideally the camera is on a focussing rail and your object is motionless. You also need to have a good lighting setup.
This lens is only for extreme (4-4.5X) macro shots. I'll attach a downsized image taken of a penny at 4.5X, f/4, ISO 800, with a Canon 5D Mark III. I'm impressed with the sharpness at this price. I intend to use this for creative photography, geology (rock samples), insects, jewelry, etc.
I was able to get sharp photos at extreme magnifications. I have not used the Canon 65mm, so I can't compare. I was also interested in the new Laowa recently announced, but it is not out yet.Build quality is fine.Due to the quality of this lens, I don't intend to test the others.
The price was right and the lens performed as expected. (Arrived with some dirt on lens, however.) The DOF is narrow and the range of working subject distances is small, but that's the name of the game when it comes to super-macro. Be prepared to look at only very tiny details.
This lens works fairly well, for what it is. I bought it to play around with, and it`s been fun learning to use it. If you get this lens, you might also want to pick up a decent focusing rail too, because hand holding with this lens is just about impossible.
Very specialized so I wont be using it every day but it is does what it was designed to do very well. Since this is a super macro and fixed focus, you are going to want to mount this on a macro rail, feed it tons of light, and focus stack.
I was looking for a specialty macro lens that would let me capture full-frame shots of Super 8 and 8mm movie film. This was exactly what I was looking for. Set to 4x, it is slightly larger than the Super 8 frame and you can adjust it to as much as 4.5x if you want to crop it.
It is what it is. It is very simple lens, but well built. Once you get used to that, it gets nice shots-very sharp. It is also a great value.
I know that the price is very cheap but the quality of the image is terrible, it is definitely not recommended
