The Surface Pro (2017) is technically an incremental update over its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4. That’s not a bad thing, as the Surface Pro 4 was already our favorite detachable tablet.

  • +

Excellent notebook performance in a tablet format, Significantly improved battery life, Outstanding build quality, Type Cover offers a quieter experience, Surface Pen is more precise and faster

  • -

Connectivity is minimal and lacks USB Type-C, Signature Type Cover and Surface Pen are costly add-ons

Without a USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3, the 2017 model of Microsoft's Surface Pro seems kind of dowdy. The fanless operation we have already seen in Acer's Alpha 12, and unfortunately the device throttles noticeably. Is the only benefit left really its decent battery life?

  • +

solid, classy design, noiseless, very good battery life (12 - 17 hours), decent camera with support for Windows Hello, very good microphone, bright display with good sRGB coverage, charges in 2 hours, very good performance in short bursts <2 minutes

  • -

significant throttling in sustained load scenarios, no USB Type-C, Signature Type Cover (2017) optional, Surface Pen (2017) optional, high price

The 2017 Microsoft Surface Pro is a shoo-in for anyone looking for a 2-in-1 detachable hybrid tablet PC, thanks to new seventh-generation processors and longer battery life. It is the system to watch for the remainder of the year as we expect competition to intensify, but with a processor bump and...

  • +

Newer seventh-generation processors. Better, prolonged battery life (13 hours). Intuitive Surface Pen and Type Cover. Versatile motion on kickstand.

  • -

Lacks USB-C or Thunderbolt 3. Type Cover and Pen Sold separately.

The iterative nature of the 2017 Surface Pro doesn't detract from the fact that this is an excellent 2-in-1 and a worthy update on 2015's Surface Pro 4. The machine itself certainly feels like five-star material, with some of the most refined design work in its class, both aesthetically and from an...

  • +

Excellent software compatibility, Powerful hardware, Stunning screen, Versatile design

I’ve used the Surface Pro series since the third generation, and there’s no doubt this Surface Pro is the best one yet. It has good performance and great battery life and, because it’s both a tablet and a laptop, it’s a very versatile machine.

The Surface Pro lineup has always been one of the most powerful tablet class devices around. Microsoft is no longer marketing it as a tablet that can replace your laptop anymore though, and they’ve acknowledged that most of the customers who buy and use the Surface Pro are looking for an...

It’s been a week with the new Pro — Microsoft’s part-tablet/part-laptop hybrid machine — and I already find myself looking longingly at the . It’s not that the isn’t a good and capable machine (it is), it’s just that, well, the Laptop is much better for my needs — and, I’m sure, the needs of most...

Say hello to the Microsoft Surface 5. Ok, ok, so it's "the new Microsoft Surface Pro", rather than adopting the generational number format in its name. And that's quite possibly because this fifth-generation model looks suspiciously like its predecessor.

  • +

Refined design is its best yet, new keyboard (sold separately) makes for best typing experience yet, great screen resolution and brightness, plenty of power available - but fanless Core i5 is probably your best bet

  • -

Battery life still isn’t great (not in the Core i7 model anyway - fanless Core i5 ought to be better in this regard), keyboard not included, can get mighty expensive - to the point a laptop might make more sense

The (2017) Surface Pro offers much improved battery life and better performance than the Surface Pro 4, which means it's the best device around for those looking the versatility of a 2-in-1 laptop.

Surface Pro 5 is the best laptop replacement tablet a creative could wish for, but most users would be better off with a Surface Laptop

  • +

Superb screen, Good battery life, Undeniably versatile

  • -

Expensive at higher specs, Keyboard costs extra and is poor, Stylus costs extra again, although it is, admittedly, excellent

After first windows update, the facial recognition function of the camera no longer working. Wasted a few days tried all the resolutions available online, no luck. It seems to be a known issue for a few years for the Intel image front camera. No definitive solution to it.

Excellent little laptop and tablet. Great for reading in bed or on the couch, but also powerful enough to run Autodesk Maya 2016!If I need to do any serious work, I use a mini-displayport to displayport cable and connect to my 30" Dell UltraSharp monitor... feels like a desktop.
