There are lots of nice reviews for this head so I'll say something new. Unlike a ball head and probably other pan heads, this head is offset. This places the center of balance not at the camera plate screw but AT THE PLACE WHERE THE LENS CONTACTS THE CAMERA.
I hate ball heads and have been looking for a pan/tilt compact enough to take when I travel. This head fills the bill. It's light, the knobs are short, and the head partially folds. It's not as compact as a ball head, but still is easy to pack. The knobs are large in diameter and easy to adjust.
I find this head much easier to manipulate than a ball head and much less likely to drop down after setting the tension.
This is a really nice head. It's compact and slides right into my tripod bag. Also, this is very sturdy and well built. I love the shipping here, I received this in a couple of days. Very nice head to have.
I use this product when I need the camera on a tripod. It is so much better than a conventional head with a control arm. It copes with any plane and angle and allows very precise placement.
Compact, Lightweight, Locks In Tight, Smooth Movement
Using 460mMG on 479 tripod instead of more usual 234RC head. Gives much more flexibility with adjustments in 3 axes instead just front to back tilt, at a cost of only about 200 more grams.
This is an upgrade from a Bogen 3D Junior head and mounted it to a new Monfrotto 290 Extra Tripod. Great addition to my kit! It is lighter, the ruberized-rounded knobs are much more compact with the head and it has the QR plate w/safety lock.
Just purchased a new tripod and was going to mount my 3D Junior head on it but though a new head wou,d go well with that so purchased this. The things it has going for it is much lighter (Magnesium?
This is a great tripod head, but it is heavy (although it doesn't stop me giving it five stars)! Unless you are carrying this for a long time it is not an issue, but it needs saying.<br />However it is good, really good.
Compact, Easily Adjusted, Locks In Tight, Smooth Movement
I bought this head for my new Manfrotto lightweight tripod as the one that came with it was a bit flimsy. I already have a quite heavy professional Manfrotto tripod with a multiway adjustable head similar to the head I am reviewing and wanted a lightweight on similar and this fits the bill...
