I needed a beast of a tripod and this is the one, folks. If a studio camera suspender is out of the realm for you but a tiny tripod just won't do, this is the best of both worlds. It is heavy- too heavy to use as an excursion tripod but definitely doable to travel to studios or on-location shoots.
This tripod is a monster, and I LOVE it. I got this beast for two main reasons: 1. I needed a high vantage point for the shooting I do 2. I needed a STABLE platform for my camera, to accommodate consistent frame alignment while shooting over a period of some time.
I bought this because after 9 years my previous Manfrotto tripod broke where the upper and lower legs join. I needed something sturdier. This tripod is definitely set up for heavy duty support. My only complaint is, I have to open and close the legs every day in my studio.
That's what the assistants have named it: the beast However it is exactly what your looking for when it comes to solid support with no consideration with regards to it's weight.. I love it... but I'm not the one who has to carry it. My assistants might have a different opinion of it....
I use this tripod very rarely, but it goes in the car with me on every architectural shoot that has an exterior angle I need to capture. When I need to get above foreground distractions or get a more balanced pov this tripod has the height.
As an architectural photographer, height is something that I just can't get around sometimes. This tripod is great. Heavy, but great. It dwarfs my D800, so it looks a bit funny, but so what. I've paired it with my standard 410 head, so it's perfect for what I need it for. Will it travel with me?
Heavy duty and well made without being over the top and too heavy. Good value and adaptable tripod. I also bought the Manfrotto 181B folding dolly, which seems to work well so far!
Strength: SUPER tall!, Overly stable, fantastic build quality and truly smooth operation. NEVER a quiver out of it! Weakness: Heavy at 17 pounds without a head, but this is NOT made for hobbiests! Manfrotto's finest is on display in this tripod.
This is the best tripod on the market. I am approaching twenty five years as a pro and I have tried nearly all the tripods on the market. I own many but this is my go-to pod of tri! I use this about 98% of my working time as a pro. If you are thinking about it just get it, you wont regret it.
i was looking at the gitzo here is the problem with the gitzo it way to expensive for most people there are two many section to deal with it requires that unscrew the g locks on each section if there are six section this takes up two much time.
